Great sunglasses
Decided on these after two pairs of Banyans over the years. Impressively sturdy feeling for being so light. I didn't realize the temples would be so stiff to open, but it's a feature rather than a bug now that I'm used to it. Once they're open, the tension is perfect on my head--they stay put without pinching, and don't slip down my nose when sweating. I never realized how often I was pushing the center of my Banyans back against my face until I noticed that I rarely need to adjust these, even when looking down with a sweaty face. A bit pricier than Banyans, but definitely feels like an upgrade. BTW they also look great!
Ultra Green is on the scene
Great shades! As with the many pairs of Maui Jims I have worn over the years these are comfortable, protect my eyes, provide great visibility. I like the green…not sure my wife has ever liked my style but to each their own…I am happy with this purchase. For context I prefer the lightweight non metallic frames with curved lens so sun doesn’t get my precious eyes from the sides. Wish I was able to wear these on the beach in Maui or hiking thru some lush growth on the side of Hana. Maybe someday.
Quality optics but sub quality plastic
Fitment is perfect, optics is perfect, the frames; not as expected. When I think of Maui Jim, I want to believe in the highest quality products and optics. This purchase is just that. Optics and fit is spot on, but the quality of the frames could be better. The design of the frames are sleek and fitment is perfect, but the one of the hinges to this particular frames is already failing. One hinge snaps sharply into place when unfolded, but the other side has no positive locking or snap when unfolded. Other that just this small plastic problem, everything else is okay. Feels like the weaker side of the frame sldes off my face easier and doesn't grip above my ear as well as the other side.
I like the shape and how lightweight it is. I wasn't sure if I should have picked a different lens color, but I'm satisfied with it now.
They melt
I recently purchased these sunglasses on June 9, 2025 for my husband for Father’s Day. He left them in the car the next day and they melted (see attached pictures). He was so mad. This is his 3rd pair and none of the sunglasses before ever melted. Are you using a new material? I want to point out that we live in Chicago and Monday’s temp was not hot.
Superior Sports Lens
Again from MJ lens, a perfect score. This brand never ceases to impress in the slightest. I was looking at attaining new lighthouse lens becuase mine have been scratched over the past few years. My friend offered a vast new upgrade: the Ho’okipa Ultras. Keep in mind, they are larger around the face with longer arms. The lens seems to wrap a little further around the corner of the eyes, giving the user more shaded peripheral vision. There is a thin layer of plastic that is part of the frame, behind and on the top of the lens to give you protection from those sneaky rays that want to make its way to your eyes. The nose pads are more durable and grabby than the lighthouse. They may not be as light as the lighthouse but again, I hardly notice them on my face while running through trails in the backcountry. As far as clarity and sun protection, there is no other lens (that I have yet worn) that matches up for incredible bright sunny days on summits above 9,000ft.
Crystal clarity and fit well too!
The clarity is amazing, better than the other Maui Jim’s I have. My eyes are photosensitive and these help more than others. They fit my small head well too. I love the blue color too!

Best Sunglasses EVER!
I have had Maui Jim Sunglasses for over 15 years and for the last ten years, Ho’okipa which have been amazing for glare, water sports, and driving. Now with the Ho’okipa Ultra the quality and and value of these sunglasses are exceptional. They cut glare and have been amazing for driving into the bright sunlight! Thank you so much!
