How to Choose Hiking Pants

Great for cool mornings that become hot days, these Arc'teryx pants have an airy, relaxed fit. And they offer scuff protection. The adjustable elastic waist works well with or without a harness.

The pants are great! I really love how well they are thought out. They are on the wider side and stretchy, making it easy to move in, and giving it good breathability. The pocket on the hip is amazing for storing my phone, which just fits (though I wouldn't use it for a phone larger than mine, which is 6.7"). It fits nicely with a harness on, with the hip pocket below the leg loops. I have no idea about durability yet, as I climbed just a few times with them, but despite the thin material they do seem durable. The length is not really a problem for me. I am 183cm, they reach my ankles when standing straight, and they hike up about 15-20cm worst case. Thus far, they are amazing and I hope I'll be able to enjoy them for a long time!
The Konseal Pant is honestly one of the best pairs of outdoor pants I’ve owned. The fit is extremely comfortable and the material feels lightweight while still being very durable. What makes this model so great is how versatile it is. I use them for climbing, hiking, and even casual everyday city wear. The tailoring and fit are just perfect, they move naturally and look clean at the same time. I liked them so much that I ended up ordering a second pair. Highly recommended.
I wanted to love these pants so much and you probably will too. I wanted something that was relaxed through the hip and thigh, not overly pocketed, and something with a clean silhouette. I also wanted something to hike in that was lightweight enough for summer as to not get sunburned. This was all of those things. The only reason I’m not keeping it is because it doesn’t come in Tall. Best pant for what I am looking for outside of that fatal flaw.
Comfortable pants but the pockets have a tendency to eject items while sitting. Also, the little clasps on the “back” or “hip” pockets are great but I have my doubts about their long term survivability. The drawstring in the waist band is novel in that it includes a little hook for securing small items such as keys. I just wish it wasn’t in the same pocket that I prefer to keep my phone.
A fantastic piece. Light. Breathable. Baggy in all the right ways. Why so short? I have to wear the waist lower than I like to get the length I'd prefer. Perhaps this is a style? Intended to keep excess fabric from causing problems during climbing? Either way, just a tad bit longer, or make a long sized version and I'll buy 2. 6"0" ~155lbs for reference.
Incredibly comfortable and well thought through design. Feels like the arc of old. In the best possible way. Using as my daily driver. Will likely get an extra pair in a different colour way to alternate. Time will tell how durablw they are, but not expecting much from such a breathable item.
Would have been the perfect climbing pants but it being absolutely to short (while wearing a harness, without they are fine, cause the crotch is low as any baggy pants the harness pulls them up a lot. I’m not tall, but please make the tall version
Excellent product, fits just a bit short for my sizing 6'3" xl, this feels like a 31" inseam making them ride up an inch or two higher than what would be ideal
Cool looking relaxed fit. / legs are a little short.
👍 What I Like +Nearly perfect for hot-weather multipitching. +Loose, breathable fit gives excellent airflow. +Shorter legs - stay out of the way when looking at your feet/footwork. I still roll them up for even more airflow (I don't bother using the ankle drawstring because it stops airflow upstream of the cuff) +Rear pockets are surprisingly secure. With my phone tethered to the drawstring using a locking carabiner made for phone tethering, it stayed in the pocket even after taking a huge whipper and ending up upside down! +Excellent waist drawstring. The stiff, non-elastic design actually stayed cinched tight all day—even with a heavy double rack. It didn't loosen or get dragged down after a full day out (Extra kudos to the design team for the waist drawstring) Areas for Improvement -Thigh pocket could be bigger. Modern phones are getting ridiculously large, so accommodating the biggest Pro Max / Big Mac / Super Big Gulp Max would be appreciated. (Although I understand not everyone wants to climb with an iPad in their thigh pocket.) -Rear pocket closure. The tiny button is difficult to operate one-handed. A larger button, zipper, or easier closure would be better. Looking forward to more color offerings (pls) and future iterations of this pant, please DO NOT cancel/axe this model (pretty please)
