Great jacket for the slopes
Wore this jacket out for the first time skiing up at Rainier and it was great. It kept all the cold wind out but the pit zips were great to keep me well vented on the way down. The material is so soft and moveable I never felt impeded by the jacket at all. It’s also a beautiful color. I am a pretty solid small and the small fit me great! Still has room to put more layers on underneath too. I’m 5’2 and about 135lbs the arms are a little long but nothing to really complain about. I do wish that there were inside pockets but it’s a lightweight no frills great option!
Great buy
The jacket is so gorgeous and perfectly breathable for touring. Great pockets and pit zips. Just don’t get stuck in the rain and you’ll be fine.
This is the Shell
The ideal mix of breathability and protection. This is the shell for me. I hope BD never gets rid of the Recon LT line because they've nailed it with both the shell and snow pants for backcountry skier and boarders. The fit is amazing. I am between size small and medium generally and I go with the smaller size (small) in almost all BD outerwear. It fits wonderfully with room for layers. The length of this shell is great, not too long to adhere movement and not too short to allow snow in. If you are an avid backcountry rider the Recon LT kit is a great investment.
Nice Fit and Zippers, Fabric Pills
For reference, I am 5'4" and 128 lbs, typical size small. I love the fit of this jacket, it's roomy enough for a puffy underneath and just baggy enough for a freeride inspired style, sleeve length is slightly long but great for me (I have a +2" ape index). I like the two front pockets for quick access, and the hood fits well over my ski helmet. My only issue is that the jacket's outer fabric on the back panel and shoulders pilled from use with my backcountry back pack, and thus did not remain waterproof.
Good Shell
This shell is lightweight, windproof, and water proof. Perfect for layering as the outer layer. Well built with nice touches like waterproof seams on the zippers. The only downside is the lack of an internal zippered pocket for valuables. Also no internal pocket for a phone/tunes. As an added bonus, could add internal monkey-paw sleeves like the Dawn Patrol shell has to keep snow out. Would buy again. Lots of comments on how nice it looks paired with the pants.
Lightweight and nice fit but needs an internal pocket
I ordered the Women's Recon Shell in Blackberry color. It's more maroon than purplish, as it looks on the website. The jacket is light and the fit is on point. I ordered a small and it fits loose with layers under. One drawback is that there is no internal pocket. It has a "pass pocket" on the sleeve, which for me is a waste of a zipper and adds weight, but it really could use an internal drop pocket for gloves, a field observations book, or other items.
Carbon Color not grey and burgundy!!!
Great jacket but very disappointed in misleading photo online of the color. Color online very clearly looks grey and burgundy on cuff and zippers. Actual product is all grey with black zippers, no burgundy anywhere! Too bad, was really excited for the grey and burgundy! Still a nice jacket but disappointed in the color.
Great ski shell
I've always had insulated ski jackets so I was nervous about buying a ski shell. I've worn it twice now on the resort, once with and once without an insulated layer. It kept my adequately warm on the cooler days and cool and dry on those warm spring sking days. The arm pit vents are great! Very happy with it
Perfect lightweight shell
This shell is super light and very waterproof. The style isn’t bulky but spacious enough to layer easily underneath when wearing true size. Not super thick so won’t add much warmth, but this is perfect for hiking or backpacking and will be a great addition to my ski gear as well.
