I wanted to like these shoes. The description made them sounds perfect for me, but back they went. They have some toe room, but not a wide forefoot at all. I wear Lone Peaks and they fit fine, as I need a shoe that is wide across the ball of my foot. These were quite narrow at that widest part of my foot - plus they were curved oddly so that my big toe was in the middle of the toebox. There was room on the inside of the toe area, but my pinky was crushed against the side. The Vibram sole was nice and sticky, and the shoe has a nice look to it in the pink color. Also, I think I’d prefer a bit more cushioning. These are very firm.
I bought these alongside the HOKA Speedgoat 7 while training for long hikes, including Half Dome, and ended up preferring these by a pretty wide margin. The Experience Wild 3 just feels more natural on my feet. The toe box gives enough room without feeling sloppy, and I feel more stable and connected to the trail than I did in the taller, more rockered HOKAS. For slower endurance hiking and long descents, these have been fantastic. An unexpected bonus: my IT band seems noticeably happier in these. Obviously everyone’s biomechanics are different, but the lower stack and overall geometry just work better for my body. If you want a trail shoe that feels comfortable, stable, and less overengineered for long hiking days, I’d absolutely recommend trying these.
I am an avid trail runner, all seasons. . I no longer do ultras but still go out for 15-20 mile trail runs on rooty, rocky, wet, muddy, steep trails in NH. With the Vibram lugs this has become my go to running shoe. I have an earlier iteration of the Wild without the Vibram and had mentioned in an earlier review that this shoe would be perfect with the burly-er sole, and VOILA, here it is! Perfect 4mm drop for me, and improved toe reinforcements. Thank you Altra for making a real deal trail running shoe for those who prefer a shoe that isn't totally zero drop! Love the black/grey combo. . . I'd love to see less "girly" light colors and more grrrr color combos.
I’ve been searching for a solid golfing shoe with a genuine wide toe box, and it turns out this trail hiking shoe absolutely nails it. The Fit: The signature wide toe box is a game-changer on the course, letting my toes splay naturally and engage fully during my swing. The Feel: The 4mm drop feels incredibly stable and provides a great, natural stance. Performance: Even though it’s designed for the trails, the grip is fantastic on turf and provides excellent traction through every turn. I liked these so much that I immediately ordered a second pair in a different color. My only wish? I really hope they release a fully waterproof version of this model soon—it would make it the ultimate winter golf option. Highly recommended if you want trail-tested comfort and stability on the golf course.
These are my favorite trail hiking / running shoes. I like the grippier soles, 4mm drop. I find the Experience Wild 3+ is more comfortable than the Experience Wild 2 shoes.
Bought the hoe for light hiking and golf. It qorks great for both. I also used it recently for for scramble hike on rocks and the Vibram sole worked well - the grip was great! Hope they launch a waterproof version this year.
