Not well made for the job they are meant for
Let me start by saying this boots are very comfortable and easy to break in. That being said the soles don't hold up at all by the second fire and hike I had small pieces of rubber coming of my boot from walking on rocks and steel terrain. Also on of the mid ankle hooks broke off within two months of owning them. I have worn these boots for 3 months on a busy fore season and they have fallen apart on me. Not REIs fault, I love rei, it's this Danner boot that won't hold up.
All around bad design
Not for firefighting at all. They're more of a winter boot. The padding is so thick it cuts off circulation to my calf. My feet get very hot wearing these. At the same time they do not protect from outside heat very well, and once they get hot from coals they take a long time to cool off due to the insulation padding. The lace hooks on the side are too low and get caught on brush, and even your other boot if you put your feet together. I feel like I got robbed buying these boots. Oh also the soles wear out quickly. Complete garbage. Danner is phasing these out because they know they're bad that's why you can buy them for 200 at some stores. If you want comfortable and sturdy danners for firefighting get Quarries.
Not built for the job
They are great and light and very comfortable but they are of No quality. One of the lace hooks in the middle broke off about the 4th time I laced them up and they slowly started to fall apart from working in them. After the fire they started falling apart I took them back to danners and got a new pair and the exact same issues came up in the new ones. They look nice and would probably work as a decent mild hiking boot if you don't lace them too tight or if you just wanna look cool, but they are not built for the job at all.
Why is there loose thread
Why is there loose thread inside the boot? This is the second time I’ve gotten a pair of boots from you with this issue. The first pair I sent back and it feels like you sent me the same pair again. What happened to quality assurance? My season starts soon and I don’t have time to wait for another pair so I guess I’ll just pray these don’t fall apart on me. Also I was double charged for this order, while some of those charges were reversed, I don’t know why this was an issue to begin with. Also I don’t know if I was refunded the correct amount. This is the last year I’ll be wearing Danners, your company has fallen from their high reputation.
These are the Best wild
These are the Best wild land fire boots! I’m putting them to the test they keep my feet cool in hot spots. Easy to wash off the ash without my feet getting wet. They are like pillows on my feet. Have not gotten a single blister in miles of hiking and working in them. They are tough enough to put up with the abuse of fire ash and water. Worth every penny. Would suggest to anyone over many other options even though they are a bit on the high end of the price spectrum for boots out there. These are worth it. This is my 5th pair of danners foot wear. Great company and great product. Also I love how you make size 15s! Lots of boots do not come in my size.
Dont run a hose and buy these.
Wet in minutes, stayed wet for 14 days. I would never buy a pair of these boots again.
Overall fit and comfort was
Overall fit and comfort was good. And the construction seemed to be up to usual Danner standard, however three of the rivets that hold the lace eyelets on were cracked. One on one boot and two on the other. I returned the boots, with no issue and received a refund. I’m writing this review, because I have long been a supporter of Danner boots and I am disappointed to see that this kind of error could occur and make it through quality control. I believe those rivets would have held for awhile, and then failed me when I needed them most. I don’t spare much chance when it comes to my gear, so unfortunately this left me with a bad taste and I had to look to another manufacturer.
Not worth it
I had these boots for just over a year and firstly I noticed how many laces I went through, I ripped through too many pairs of laces which I guess I can expect from any boot but I went though more waxed laces than I care to count. I kept getting my eyelets caught on my nomex pants which eventually broke all the eyelets around my ankles where I need the most support. Lastly my soles ripped in half so after a 14 day stint I spent my r&r day getting new boots that I was willing to break in over using these boots again. Pretty comfortable on the feet but that's about it. My suggestion is spend a little extra for White's or Nick's because I know I'll get a few seasons out of those
Great Alternative to Traditional Fireboot
I did two fire seasons with over 700 hours of overtime in one pair. About to buy the exact same boot. They don't hold up quite as well as the thicker leather that you might get with a White or Nick boot but they are way more comfortable and that flatter sole provides more stability for me personally. Their lightness and comfort what you get in trading off some durability. I had to have a local boot store sew some leather patches in heel where the stitching blew out on both boots but it was a cheap fix. Danner might have done it but I needed it done quickly to get back to work.
This boot works for me
This boot is a game changer in comfort and support. I work Search and Rescue and this is my go to boot in all conditions that don't involve crampons. Coming from the Flashpoint boot, this is night and day. No brutal break in period, just an occasional lace adjustment here and there. You don't have the heel height but these still climb very well and the wide width is very accommodating from heel to toe. It's a bigger boot in person and it is warm. Easy on and off after long days and nights. Highly recommended for carrying heavy loads over long distance with support and comfort.
