good sandals

I bought these two weeks ago and they are fairly comfortable. They appear to be well made. The fit is as good as it can be. My only problem with them is the length of the straps after I tighten them. My straps drag on the ground/floor as I have narrow feet. This is a minor issue to me. See photo.

Long time Chaco owner, but quality is way down

I've owned more Chacos than I can count in the last 25+ years (my first pair were called Gecko's before they had to change the name to Chaco). The footbeds are still the same quality they've always been BUT the webbing used is such a low quality that it begins to fray after just a few months. Now this is the second pair that has had webbing issues and they are less than 6 months old. My old Chaco's from years ago would last 2-3 years before the webbing would need to be replaced, which I took advantage of. But now Chaco is cutting corners to make a few extra bucks. Well, this is my last pair. Switching to Luna Sandals. :(

Love the sandals but the soles don't hold up

I've been wearing Chaco Z/1 sandals for several years. When my last pair wore out, I bought a replacement pair from REI in March 2016. By July 2016, the soles had worn through and cracked. Chaco replaced them for free (not counting shipping costs) and said there was a bad batch of sole material. The replacement pair lasted August 2016 to May 2017. I wear sandals a lot, though not through the winter, so the actual wear time was probably 5 months or so. Both soles now have 1.5" long cracks. I'm sending that pair to Chaco for one last try. I love these sandals - simple design, solid footbed - but I need them to last years, not months. If it weren't for the soles, I would give these 4-5 stars.

Chacos today have no sole!!

I bought my first pair of Chacos in 1999 or 2000 from a outfitter on the Nantahala River - they lasted me something like 5 years. Then I bought another pair to wear while on disaster relief for hurricane Katrina - they lasted about 4 years - then I got another pair around 2010 that lasted 2 years - At this point though, I need to buy another pair about every year - not even a year actually. The soles wear out and the bed cracks along the ball of my foot. I have not found an alternative that I am happy with yet, but I am actively searching. I hear you can order custom sandals that are still made stateside and of a higher quality - and I love Chacos so much - I might be willing to do it, but I am afraid they will let me down too.

More comfortable than shoes

This is my 4th pair of Chacos. My 1st pair lasted for 6 years. When those wore out I was lucky enough to find 2 pairs at a place in Santa Fe for half price. Those two pairs only lasted 4 years. I like this pair but the other reviews are correct: the straps are stupid long. One reason why I like Chacos (and Oboz for shoes) is that I can walk in total silence. I’m 6’3”, 200lbs and before buying Chacos and Oboz I would make noise when walking. The stupid long straps on this new pair scrape the ground when walking. I don’t like that, but still give these sandals 5 stars. I’m just going to have to cut the straps shorter.

Quality has gone down

i had a pair of these i bought 8 or 10 years ago and was impressed with the quality and comfort of the soles. i bought a new pair this year and things have changed. the sole is not comfortable and in fact rubs my feet pretty badly. The sole is no longer Vibram. The straps seem to be lower quality material but i could be wrong. Overall i am not impressed with where Chaco's have been going.

Long time user, skeptic of new product

TL;DR- Loved older shoes. Newer shoes definitely fit the bill. Straps less rugged than previous pair. Will continue to use day after day, summer after summer. I had an amazing pair of Chacos from 2008, I loved the pair to death. Perfect strap positioning, vibram soles, lived through three or four super glue operations. My dog also loved chewing apart their straps. I was skeptical to buy a new pair, as they no longer used vibram rubber, and there was grumbling on previous reviews. I still needed a new pair so I pulled the trigger. Very happy that I did. Only difference from my previous pair is that the straps are less rugged. Not concerned that they will fail, but it is easy to notice that they are focused on "soft," maybe to give casual users less blisters?

These were great but now I am wondering

I have worn Chaco's sandals for several years and with heavy usage during summer months. The straps usually gave out after 2 years but I accepted that. That last pair I bought does not seem to hold up as before. Straps almost worn out after one year. Now I read they use cheaper soles (non-Vibram). I was about to order another pair but now I am reconsidering. Maybe Chaco since Chaco went to China (from USA) they dropped the quality theme.
