I've been through too many trail shoes to list and if I did they might not publish this. I can only agree with the other reviewers. These shoes ROCK! I have a wide fore foot, skinny heel and a huge arch. These shoes do not have a large arch support but everything else is perfect. The toe box is BIG and built right. The drop is great too. Oh and the grip is perfect. I haven't slipped yet. This was probably #13 in the shoes I've tried this year for trails and all of the others failed miserably. Most of the others put my toes to sleep or at least made my toes tingle. These simply are the very best and I'm very happy that they are not fluorescent yellow or green. BTW they are true to size. If they feel a half size too big that will be perfect for when you are running downhill. Never buy a trail running shoe that fits just right. Always buy slightly larger and tie only the top lace or 2 some what tight. Trust me. It took me 13 shoes and 6 months to figure that out... Now get out there and go running!
I bought these for a trip to England and they didn't disappoint. Warm, dry feet everywhere I went in all conditions. They are so light, you almost forget you are wearing them ! Though one of the eyelets tore out, I was able to jury-rig the lacing and they remained comfortable. REI replaced them as soon as I got home. The advice to go up in size is correct. I normally wear a 91/2 or 10, but the 101/2 fits perfectly _ even with my narrow feet.
I normally wear an 8EEE, which is almost impossible to find in anything but a dress shoe. So when the REI helper-person recommended these shoes in a 10, I was skeptical, even when he said they're like a EE shoe. But they felt almost too good to be true as soon as I put them on and I've been enjoying them bopping around town since then. The true test will be in July when I take them on our annual family trip to the Stanislas National Forest. If they pass that test, then they're coming with me to New Zealand next winter!
I haven't jogged or run in these, but the fit is great for someone with extremely wide forefoot area. They seem well made, and light and comfy. Plan to make this my go-to shoe for light hiking on paths and forest trails, perhaps some dog walking duties. Wished they carried Topo in the physical store. I saw them online but was hesitant, so I bought a different shoe at the store, and while they felt fine walking around in the store, after wearing them around the house I got hot spots/numbness, so returned them and ordered the Topos online. They are keepers.
These shoes are extremely dangerous. I've slipped and fallen several times while wearing these around the city in the rain. If you step onto a metal plate on a sidewalk or the street while wet they just have no grip or friction at all. I've even slipped on concrete sidewalk surfaces with these. They also aren't terribly durable. After one hike up Granite Mountain in the snow there's already a tear in the top material. I will say that they are quite comfortable, but given the above two points I cannot give this anything more than one star.
I've put a few one hour plus trails runs on these on The Long Trail and I like them. Pretty sticky on wet rocks, good general traction, good in water, comfortable. I turned my ankles out a few times more than normal, maybe because of the 3mm drop that is different than the what I'm used to with my standard Brooks Cascadias
These are amazing. They're extremely lightweight, waterproof (as waterproof as a low trail shoe can be, in a true downpour they do leak a little around the tongue, and they can easily be overtopped by deep puddles) have great grip and are very breathable (most important for me). I got these after my North Face Hedgehogs wore out, and they are substantially lighter and more breathable. I am hoping that the durability will be there.
Bought these for wet PNW trail running. Haven’t tried them in serious rain yet but they’re dry in wet grass run/walks. They’re a tad too warm for sunny dry runs. Comfy out of the box. I have wide feet and almost always have to order 2E or 4E running shoes but lucked out with these as they have a nice wide toebox. Had to go up a size more than my usual running shoe size. Haven’t had them long enough to know about their longevity.
At first glance the Hydroventure appears rather sedate with its subtle graphics - in use it is anything but...astounding stability and firmness under foot on the roughest ground in a package undoubtedly the lightest on the market for an off trail shoe - a result of the innovative use of welding technology in the upper virtually eliminating overlaps and stitching. As well, the addition of the E-Vent waterproof bootie works flawlessly and after several hundred miles is leak proof. This shoe is a different fit than than say the Topo MT-2 shoe which I have also used - It is a more structured fit. Overall these are really superb shoes that perform brilliantly and they belie their rather understated look and unflashy graphics. There is alot going on here under the hood, and the best way to think of it - in the automotive terms - you want lots of flamboyant flash in your shoe like a lamborghini (the bull) this is not your shoe - think instead ferrari (dancing horse) classic refined lines but full of innovation and fantastic performance.
Very happy with Hydroventure Trail-Running Shoes, perfect fit, comfortable for all day hikes and jogs.
