Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks, feels, and works great! Just bought this but after nine straight days of rain I think I can honestly review it. This jacket is very soft (not stiff and noisy like some) and light weight, quite breathable and perfectly waterproof so far. I am 5'11'' and 195 and ended up buying an XL in order to get enough room to layer under the jacket. Beats me why outfitters make garments so snug that you can't wear much more than a tee shirt under them. If you plan to actually use this for any excursion beyond the office and the mall, go up at least one size. One other thing- the hood is roomy and well designed to fir over a ball cap and here again the softness of the fabric pays off. When you turn you head you do not end up looking at the inside of the hood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Colorado Rain proof Bought this rain jacket right before a rock climbing trip and sure enough needed it! The first day of climbing in Boulder we got rain about 2 hours into our climbing. Good solid rain that soaked everybody and all the rock clearly enough to postpone the climbing for the rest of the day. I on the other hand whipped out my pocket-sized piece of rain proof goodness and stayed perfectly dry and clearly warm. Judging by all the goosebumps and and huddling for warmth. I love the two-tone by the way (thumbs up)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waterproof Jacket put to the test With a fishing trip down in south Florida approaching and typical pop up storms in the forecast it was time to bite the bullet on a solid rain jacket. This Kuhl Jetstream jacket performed flawlessly in driving rain on a fishing boat with only a small canopy for cover. I was the only one that was dry after 30 minutes even though I stood the brunt of the storm at my back. With no insulation and packable into its own pocket it was a perfect stowable jacket for warm harsh weather. when the sun came back out, a quick shake to get the water off and it was back in the small boat console. I have no hesitation to take it when I go backpacking this fall. I have never been let down with any Kuhl product, worth the money in my opinion.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaked on first heavy rain. I was good in light rain, then 15 minutes of heavy downpour overwhelmed the fabric and he shoulders and back leaked through. We are in a drought here in CT, so it was literally the first time it got wet and maybe the second time out of the closet. Fit runs small but I knew that so ordered a size up. Otherwise I was thrilled with the coat. It seems like it would have been a great purchase had it worked for its primary purpose - keeping me dry for long periods in rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice lightweight shell Super nice shell. Lots of features except pit zips. Lots of compliments as it has a cut that is very flattering. 6'1" 180lbs and large fits great. I've had it a month and it had been pouring rain in NorCal. Literally using every rain jacket I have (which is a lot... just ask my wife). This one keeps my completely dry for several hours in a down poor. My archteryx super light will keep me dry for maybe half that time. May not be completely fair comparison because I've had the archteryx over a year but you get the picture. Last thing I'll lention is that the fabric has some flex to it which I love. Much more comfortable than a traditional "hard shell". I will see if/how/when that effects waterproofing over time. Hood works very well and is not too large. Some jackets today seam to have massive hoods. The size on this one is great and it locks in place with elastic cord pulls that actually work leaving a snug fit around the head and good vision when turning head. Really like it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not waterproof Got the jacket and pants and went out in a tropical storm. Jacket leaked water across back. Returned it to REI for to try again (I like the light weight quiet fabric). Second jacket leaked worse than the first within 5 minutes in a moderate downpour. Given the reviews so far, I'd guess that Kuhl has an issue with a failing batch of fabric. Seems to me that a product recall is in order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb rain jacket I did my shopper's homework: viewed and tried on several different rain jackets. This one, far and away, was best. Other good-brand jackets, in comparison, felt like plastic bags, or like rubber. This one is lightweight, compliant to body movements, fits well, even folds into its own pocket. Pockets (4) are plentiful (for a rain jacket). Couldn't ask for much else, other than maybe a small piece of velcro so that the brim of the very protective hood might be folded inward and then remain in its smaller format when you are in less than a downpour. I can add that one feature myself. Great jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not suitable for even light rain! I bought this "rain" jacket a month ago, and took it for a walk in rainy April. It started to rain at the end of my walk and when I got home I was soaked on my shoulders and my head. This jacket provided almost no protection. Worthless. Brought it back and at the store, an REI employee took a water soaked towel and dribbled a little on the jacket - and it went right through. Use this jacket only if you don't expect to be caught in the rain any time.

The thickness of your down layer will influence you size selection, but based on the measurements you provided a medium size will likely be your best fit in the KUHL Jetstream Rain Jacket.
