Setting the Record Straight

This bag lives up to Patagonia's reputation for superior products. Despite a couple of very critical reviews, I purchased this bag (online order) on faith it would perform like other Patagonia gear I'd purchased in the past and it has not disappointed. I rarely spend the time to review products, although this bag has quickly become my 'go to' and I felt it deserved better than previously reviewed. The bag has a padded sleve for what shoudl accommodate up to what I am guessing is a 17" laptop, and a separate sewn in sleve for a tablet (fits a 9.7" iPad perfectly). It has 3 other internal pockets to keep phones, electronics, etc well organized, and overall seems well designed. The construction of the bag is top-notch and I have no reason to believe it will begin breaking down any time soon. I'm very happy I invested in this bag.

Nice but not as advertised

Like all Black Hole bags the messenger looks great and is burly. But, it is not a messenger bag as advertised. Basically, nothing about it is as advertised. It is not designed, and cannot be worn, vertically - the shoulder strap is not designed or cut for it. There is no one hand quick adjustment strap. Who knows what they mean about it being able to be worn on either shoulder. No magic there, just slip it over whatever shoulder floats your boat. Most discouragingly, there is not three point fully adjustable stability strap. There is no stability strap at all and no attachment point for a stability strap. So, this bag simply cannot be worn while riding a bicycle (or motorbike safely). It really seems like the copy was written without looking at the bag. If you want a good looking briefcase, the messenger is great. If you want a true messenger bag, keep looking. I will return mine.

Not quite as advertised. Invisible in the dark.

Have three other Patagonia messenger bags, including last year's balck hole bag. Love all of them except this one. Decription says, "reflective material for visibility at night", unfortunately I found this not to be the case as there are no reflective strips present on this year's model (not even on the shoulder strap, unlike previous years), and there no reflection other than the shiny plastic like material you see in the picture.
