Bare minimum

I nearly returned this item because it came with no instructions and figuring out how to mount the stand on a bike was becoming too frustrating. Eventually, after some online research, I installed the stand on a 16in. bicycle. If installed correctly, the fit should be good and tight. However, one has to wonder why EVO did not provide any instructions to guide an average customer. For that alone, the product does not deserve an “average” rating. Instructions: 1. Untighten left rear axle bolt (as if to take the back wheel off completely). 2. Remove the bolt and insert the kickstand bracket using a circular opening. Ensure that the coil spring faces outward. 3. Unscrew a small rectangular silver bracket from the kickstand and slide the rectangular piece between rear wheel fork on the back of the kickstand. 4. Tighten a silver screw to the bracket using a phillips screwdriver. This will prevent the kickstand from rotating. 5. Finally, tighten the rear axle bolt. 6. Test the kickstand. The coil spring should be stretched when the kickstand is up (disengaged).

kickstand does not stay attached

The kickstand has an extremely tight spring that requires that you shove the stand quite hard in order to push it up or put it down. The kickstand also does not stay screwed in place on the bike. Even when it has been newly tightened, it sits at an odd angle. Basically, this is the kickstand that REI recommends for use with its kids Coop Cycles, but it is not a good fit and constantly comes loose. We finally gave up and took it off the bike entirely since I was literally tightening my kid's kickstand every single day before he used his bike. It's a disappointment because REI's products are usually excellent.

Works Fine

We actually installed it on a bike with 14 inch wheels and it works fine.
