Rated 5 out of 5 by from 27+ will save the hardtail! I bought this bike around my birthday in late March. I have ridden it lift-served, on regular XC trails, and commuting to and from work. Great 'Swiss Army knife' of a bike. I'm 5'5" and around 160 pounds, and I feel that other than on super-steep trails bordering on DH or super-rocky trails where a fat bike or full suspension would be more comfy, the bike has not been outmatched. One note - performance and comfort will be highly dependent on tire pressure. I tend to run around 25 PSI commuting and 10-15 PSI trail riding - you may need more or less depending on your weight, surface conditions, and how hard you ride. My previous bike was a 29er Cannondale hardtail (the 2013 Trail SL1) and I can say this bike simply outclasses it - my only question being whether the rollover isn't quite as good with 27+ versus 29. I'm tempted to put a dropper post on this and upgrade the brakes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike for this old man I'm just about to turn 67 and after a crash on my 29er I bought this Beast of the East. It's a wonderful bike. I do a lot of mountain biking with my son and grandkids and the soft tires and great symmetry have brought a new joy and sense of well-being to riding. Plus, the women are turning to look at me again - or is it the beautiful bike? Hoping it will take me at least 70.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too much fun I bought this bike a little over a month ago, so these are largely first impressions. I'm coming from a 27.5" hardtail, which was fun but didn't really give me what I wanted in an MTB. This bike is a blast! 27.5+ tires enable you to do so much that thinner tires don't and I'm having fun discovering exactly what that means. Despite the extra weight they entail, I don't feel it on the trails and I'm actually riding faster with the extra cushion they provide and especially the confidence they inspire. I've made it up hills that I used to spin out on, so even hills are easier. The confidence that the the bike inspires has me pushing my limits. Off of the dirt the bike is definitely slower than a smaller tired bike, but that's not what it is made for. One annoyance that plus bikes share is that the tubes are enormous and heavy, so I just converted mine to tubeless the other day. That took almost a pound off of the bike and I'm looking forward to seeing what it is like without them. Also, the way that you ride is different (at least for me). The steering is less accurate than a smaller tire, though the tradeoff is that in many situations it is less important to pick an accurate line through a turn. It also took a little while for me to get used to the wide seat stays, which I can brush with the back of my knees if I fully extend my leg. That had me initially questioning the fit, but I otherwise fit the bike (medium frame, I'm 5'11") perfectly and it hasn't been an issue riding. Pick one up and have some fun!
