Must have
I didn't think I need one of those after many snowboarding seasons without any major accidents. But this winter I fell pretty bad on the icy section right on my tailbone and it was unbearable pain. So I immediately started looking online for tailbone protection and came across these shorts. Luckily, I haven't fallen anymore, but what I can say right now after a few rides is that they feel pretty comfortable and I forget that I have them, that's a good thing. I'm not that naive to think they'll protect me from anything, but from what I can see - they'll definitely lower the impact if needed. Won't hit slopes without this shorts in the future!
Not just for snowboarding
As a new XC skier, I hurt my hip pretty bad 2 seasons ago on an icy downhill, which cut my season short. I purchased these shorts early this past season in the hopes that I would make it through the season uninjured, and they delivered not just for XC skiing, but also as I started to learn to ice skate this season. I've taken quite a few falls (especially on the ice) this season, but I haven't suffered so much as a single bruise. These shorts are amazing, and I credit them for an injury-free season as I learn new winter sports.
Hardly Protection
These things do not absorb impact when you fall. Tailbone injuries are just as likely to occur without them. Burton needs to produce a better product for this amount of money.
Doesn't protect
These shorts don't really protect you from anything. The "pads"thin pieces of hard rubber. Hurts a lot actually. I will be returning them.
