Horribe Taste for Lemon Lime
GU made a cheaper hydration tablet compared to other brands. Having used their GUI packs for cycling, I figured I could not go wrong. Well that was a bad assumption. I took this tube with me on a 40 mile backpacking trip. Arrived at my destination for the day (13 miles in) and need to rehydrate. Followed the instructions and gave it a try. I could not finish half of it without tossing it out. It was bitter and horrible tasting. I was very disappointed. Will be putting the tube in the office labeling "free" to anyone else who wants to give it a try. It was so sour, not pleasant at all, and very little flavor to it.
Savin my butt this summer
Since I work outside, I started this year drinking just my normal amounts of water. The first real hot days we had really drained me and even though I took in plenty of water, my body needed something else. I've used these while ridding and mix one in my water bottle when I swim. So why not use it on the hot days at work when I'm trying to stay hydrated and alert. It really has worked great for me this summer. And for the cost, it beats buying gator aid style drinks all day.
Excellent minus the residue.
I'm a mineral water (LemonLime Perrier) drinker, and they are very similar to that. Light flavor, not overpowering (I like my Gatorade 50/50 with water). Even morning running in Texas can be a 90°+ experience and after dropping a couple pounds of sweat these make me feel recharged. Good hydration, but the downside is the residue. I wash my cup in the dishwasher, but I would not use these in a soft reservoir like a camelbak. 4 star product.
Leaves a residue that is hard to clean.
This product tastes okay especially when compared to other electrolyte drinks. The tablets are very convenient and they dissolve fully. However, unlike the previous version, the new tablets leave a residue that can be very hard to remove particularly if the tablets are used repeatedly. I am extremely hesitant to use this product in anything that would be difficult to clean -i.e. a hydration reservoir for a backpack.
Good hydration for pickleball sessions!
The GU Hydration Tabs have worked well to support my electrolyte level during pickleball sessions. I'm over 60 with a family history of type 2 diabetes so limiting my carb and sugar intake is very important. I appreciate that a large portion of the sweetening is done with Stevia, and there is only 1 carb per tab. The tabs dissolve well and to me they taste great. I especially like the strawberry lemonade flavor. Overall a big thumbs up from me for this product!
It’s like pop rocks
I typically take these like a candy and just crew them with water. Works great like eating pop rocks.
Great drink for long runs
This is a great drink for long runs. I have a pretty sensative stomach, and pretty much everything else I’ve tried has given me GI distress. I use the orange flavor. For all the other reviewers saying that it tastes horrible, just put in a spoon of sugar and it tastes fine. I recommend it for people with sensitive stomachs that need a good electrolyte drink.
Awesome addition to my day pack
I grew up hiking Back East, and I found that hikes around my new home in the Sonoran desert are a totally different ball-game! I've struggled with drinking too MUCH water on simple day hikes. Salty snacks help, but I feel like I'm just taking in sodium and sugar, which isn't everything I need to off-set what I'm sweating. These tabs completely solve this problem for me. They're not sugary, and it supplements your water with sodium and potassium in balance. I used one tab per liter of water, and I felt awesome after an 11 mile day hike in full sun exposure in the Superstitions.
GU Drink Tabs Work Well
Comparing this to Fizz which I have used for years and consider excellent. The GU tables do the job. In my opinion they are a bit less effervescent. Tablets are missing the center ridge to break in half, which I always do since I use a half tablet per cycling water bottle or 500 ml Nalgene. Still, the tables easily break in half. Until this year I could get the Fizz tablets locally for $4.75, so the price on these GU tablets was comparable. Recently, the Fizz distributor has made themselves unattractive to local bike shops so I have been shopping for alternatives.
Tasty, convenient, and keeps you hydrated
I really like the GU drink tabs. The flavors are good and they help keep you hydrated. Sometimes you just need a little flavor in your water. They help me drink a little more than I would otherwise without the tabs.
