Uncomfortable
I had high hopes for these shoes, but they were spectacularly uncomfortable. Maybe it's my foot - I'm a regular size 7 and don't usually have problems with shoes, but I think more likely it is the cut of the shoe. I have a small bunion on my left foot and the stitching at the top of the laces pressed right at the base of my big toe and didn't flex when I walked. I was in so much pain the first time I wore these, I had to take them back. They seem like well made shoes but I would advise trying them on and walking around the store for a while with them on before buying them.
Disappointed
I love the looks, weight, quality and flexibility of this shoe. It is just what I am looking for, however it is very loose in the heel. Sure I can tighten the laces and insert a heel cup or innersole, wear thicker sock, etc but this puts pressure on a bunion at the bottom of my big toe. I did try, but plain and simple they just don't work for my feet. I do not have a narrow foot. I need an ample toe box which these shoes have, but the heel is sloppy. So disappointed. For some this is no doubt a great shoe.
Great for everyday use and walking on sidewalks
I researched reviews online regarding sizing since no REI link to Ahnu sizing which would have been helpful. I used the Ahnu measuring guide and decided to try to 6-1/2 since I do have a wide foot and do not like my toes touching the front of the shoe when hiking hills. From the first try, these are extremely comfortable but not snug fitting. The heels are made to fit providing a secure fit. I do notice that the right heel fits differently and maybe over time will adjust. Although I have a wider foot, these are very loose in the footbed. I'm not sure if I had chosen the smaller 6 this problem would be the same. I walk several miles a day and needed a waterproof shoe for the winter unlike tennis shoes. I use a Smart Wool sock and have not had any problems overheating. I will look for an insole to help with the looseness in the footbed. I ordered the Brown and am really pleased with the color as well.
Ahnu Taraval WP Walking Shoe Review
Love them. The stitching on this pict looks mint colored. Maybe it is my lighting or computer. The green hued stuff is cream colored. The bottom sole is black. I bought these shoes to do 12 hour nursing shifts (I was happy with them as work shoes) but liked them so much I started using them as non work shoes. I also took them on a Boson/Salem trip that we walked or biked everywhere and loved them for this use too. I would buy these shoes again.
Great walking shoe
Ever since I had a foot injury, I have to be more careful about the shoes I buy. These are great. Really comfortable. I'm usually a size 8.5 and the size 8 fit, so seem to run a little bigger.
I don't usually do reviews ... BUT ....
I own the gray - Christmas shopping with son, we saw them, color combination caught our eyes, he said try them on ... I've never put a shoe on my foot after walking the mall that seemed to form fit my foot, if that makes sense, it seems like the shoe just softly made my foot feel at home - I told my son this and he immediately told the salesperson, we'll take them. I've been wearing them off and on for a month now, I take public transit, live in MI, we've had 9* weather days when I may be standing outside waiting on the bus, my feet remain warm and dry! Very good; not great
I bought these for a 2 week trip to Europe. Our days were filled with walking over a variety of terrains. They are comfortable, with good support. I like that they don't look like athletic shoes. These shoes aren't perfect, though; (1) there should be 1 more set of eyelets for better adjustable lacing (2) they are NOT waterproof, as advertised. (I walked about 5 city blocks in a light rainstorm and did not walk through any puddles, but my feet were wet.) (3) the shoes are fairly warm, which got to be a little uncomfortable. It's also important to note the shoes run 1/2 size big.
Love these shoes!
These shoes are a perfect fit (I'm size 11). They are lightweight, nice looking and soooo comfortable! I bought them to take traveling as they are waterproof. I usually just wear runners traveling but I hate it when it rains and my feet get wet in runners. These shoes will be perfect! I chose the charcoal colour which is a nice change from my usual black.
Good walking shoe
I bought them for walking, comfort and most importantly for a WATERPROOF shoe. I did not wear in the rain until recenly and I was in CANADA and took them purposedly for fact they were waterproof. They are NOT. My toes were soaking. This was not from wet jeans or rain coming in over the top of the shoe. I would not recommend buying if purpose was for keeping dry.
Fabulous Shoe
Thought I would try these shoes for my everyday casual to wear mostly with jeans but I find these are becoming my go to for everything because they are so comfortable. I just need to order them in different colors...I bought brown. I have high arches, bunion on one foot and not much padding on the balls of my feet. I have orthotics in my running shoes but none in other shoes. These shoes are great without orthotics. I can wear these all day without feeling a relief when I take my shoes off at night. Love them!
