Compact, lightweight, tons of light!

I love love love this little lantern! I've taken it backpacking and it was perfect--packs down small and lit my tent wonderfully. I bought a tiny caribiner to attach it to my tent ceiling and it works great for hands-free lighting--it was bright and lit the whole tent without being too focused in any one area. I would definitely recommend it.

best little light

a friend brought this along on a trip into the Peruvian Andes. Our group traveled to remote areas without electricity. This lightweight lantern put out an amazing amount of light, lasted a long time, easy to recharge and seems indestrucible.

Great light

Packs small and has a large amount of light. I see the comment that says it's hard inflate (blow into), but don't try that way. Simply pinch the valve and pull up - it inflates without blowing into it.

Bright and light lamp

This is a great source of light. Very compact, easy to hang on the outside of your bag to collect light - no batteries needed! It's super light and I was very pleased with how much it illuminated my camp site. Loops on both sides make it very handy to hang anywhere you need it to go. It's not difficult to blow into at all but it does help to pull the sides apart as you blow into it. The material feels very sturdy. Definitely one of my favorite purchases, I love it.

Just makes sense to pack this

I bought one of these lanterns to test on an family camping experience and I have to say that I was impressed. Charged it by sitting it on my car dash while commuting home. That evening I inflated it and was surprised by the excellent light output. I could easily read by the light with it sitting on my bedside table and look forward to field testing it, so results are pending. It packs down to nothing by opening the air valve and squeezing it flat. The one way valve keeps it from inflating again so the 'pancaked' form retains shape. At 4 ounces and no batteries, I have to note that this as a really practical and 'neat' piece of gear. A side benefit is the fact that it is eco-friendly and the energy it uses is renewable. I'll update this review after a field test, but the durability of the plastic is a concern noted by other users. Even if a puncture should occur, it would seem to me that the lantern is still usable.

Great for trekking & backpacking!

We bought some lanterns for our 20 day trek in Nepal. Headlamps and flashlights (any device that uses batteries, especially lithium) seem to have issues at high (and cold) elevations. So, the lantern was really our best and most reliable light source! Also, we happened to be trekking during the earthquake--so electricity was even more rare and sporadic than normal. We ended up giving these lanterns to our guide/porters as a gift and they were very thankful & said this would be most useful for them. These lanterns are lightweight as mentioned by other reviewers, produce strong light, solar rechargeable (we had several rainy days with no sun...and the lantern never stopped producing light). They seem quite sturdy--stuffed in our backpacks for days at a time. The only reason for 4 stars is there are several other lantern types that equal this one in quality--but can be packed down even smaller (which is useful if you are concerned about weight & space). Certainly not a deal-breaker though & overall I would recommend this product.

chandelier of mobile lighting

I used this lantern on a recent trek in Nepal. I charged it before leaving and didn't have to recharge it over my 2 week trek. It was used almost every night for about an hour on average. It lights up a 4 person tent like a champ. And was a hit when the generators weren't working.

Great Product

Have used mine to hang inside my UL tent on several overnights in NY's ADK high peaks region. I love it. It's lightweight and lasts forever. Got the non-frosted, single color version and have no regrets. My one and only recommendation is that when inflating it, try squeezing the valve and pulling the lantern open. Blowing into it causes condensation to build up inside it.

Great light lantern

This is a light, well designed solar lantern perfect for backpacking. It holds a good charge and can be easily attached to the outside of your backpack during the day to charge. My one and only complaint is the opening to inflate the lantern. It can be difficult to blow into.

Don't try to push the valve in.

I got the frosted version and like it. It puts out a good amount of light and you can read by it. You know how the valve sticks out on an inflatable ball and you're supposed to push it inside the ball? Don't do that with this lantern. I did that and broke the plastic on the bottom. It still works though. That's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
