very good trekking pole
I tried out a few different models and really enjoy the REI Traverse Trekking Pole. The price is reasonable. I find the foam grips to be much better and more comfortable than the ones with rubber or cork. I also enjoy that there is no shock spring as with other poles (I find that feature annoying). The only issue I have is the locking mechanism tends to loosen often (I had this happen with other poles as well). Also, I remove the wrist straps, I never like having them on poles used for hiking.

Poles do not lock well.
I returned these poles because I had to keep readjusting the height every 10 mins due to the locking mechanism failing and the length shorting. Pay extra for a better locking mechanism on your trekking poles

Great trekking poles

I purchased the traverse poles to use on a trip to Zion and Bryce Canyons and they worked flawlessly. The grips were very comfortable, the locking mechanism was solid and did not slip, and the measure points on the shafts make them easy to adjust once you know where your correct height needs to be. Overall, I think this is a great product and it has worked extremely well for me. I would highly recommend these poles.

First time using poles, great value

I recently went on a 4 day backpacking trip and due to some sore knees, I thought I'd give trekking poles a try. After comparing the prices and weight, the REI adjustable poles seemed like a great value (they're about the same weight as Black Diamond poles that are $20 more). I know they're not the lightest ones out there and have foam handles instead of cork, but for anyone thinking of trying poles, these are a great entry point. The only major difference I could tell is that they are thicker than the Black Diamond poles that are close in price.

Great hiking poles

The main difference between good and bad hiking poles are the ease with which you can shorten or lengthen them. Cheap pole sometimes become permanently a single length. These REI poles were very easy to change length on. During a recent middle Teton hike I was able to make multiple changes without any difficulty

Great new trekking poles

I recently replaced my old 2 piece poles that I have had for over 10 years with these 3 piece poles. These are lite, strong easy to adjust. The 2 features I like the most is the grips, not to soft and comfortable, in addition the wider longer wrist straps are an upgrade from my old poles. And they are very reasonably priced.

Perfect match of cost and function

These poles enabled this fat old guy to hike into and out of the Grand Canyon! Performed flawlessly. Pack away nicely. Sturdy and dependable.

Trekking poles just ok

I got these poles because of the price and they were pretty lightweight. However, only an hour into snowshoeing, one of the baskets fell off (after I tightened it right before leaving) and it was lost. This was pretty frustrating. Also had some trouble extending the poles, it wasn't as easy as it should be.

Locking mechanism slips often

Is there some trick to tightening the locking mechanism on these poles? Does it even tighten? I tighten the poles and the lock slips every outing. It is a "powerlock system". Why do some people's pole locks slip and others do not have this problem. My poles are about 5 or 6 years old. Are they no longer available due to lock slippage?

Trekking Poles you can travel with!

My previous trekking poles were too long to fit into out largest suitcase. These poles compact nicely and fit into our travel suitcase. My wife and I shared the pair of poles for two weeks of hiking in the Utah National Parks. She's become a convert to hiking with poles after using one of these poles.
