Eddyline’s Equinox, = Excellent Kayak
Eddyline makes fantastic kayaks and their Equinox is among the best of them . This kayak fits such a wide range of people and it’s truly on the short list for that elusive “ Jack of all trades “ or Swiss Army Knife fo it all go almost anywhere kayak . I’m on the larger side at 6’5” and 215 lbs with size 13 shoes and a 36” inseam . That’s no problem for this spacious and roomy yet very comfortable cockpit with a very comfortable adjustable seat . I highly recommend that anybody interested in this kayak view the reviews on YouTube. The primary stability is fantastic and the secondary stability is almost unreal . You can lean this kayak almost 90 degrees on its side before the tipping point. There’s plenty of storage in the two huge bulkheads and lots of room on the deck as well . This kayak accelerates with ease and maintains glide for a long time after you stop paddling. It’s really a great kayak to grow in and improve your skills in a wonderful, well designed and fun, safe and beautiful looking kayak. At only 45 lbs it’s easy to handle both off and on the water.Lets not forget all the great people at Eddyline. They truly do put passion in their work and it shows in their products proudly made in the USA by people who know what their doing that pick up the phone and answer any questions you may have. I love my Equinox so much I have a second one ordered to add to my wonderful Sandpiper 130 . A Sitka XT is next .
Perfect for Me
I am 5' 10", 150 lbs. After 15 years of paddling a 16.5' kevlar solo canoe I decided to add a kayak. I chose the Equinox for flat water paddling and could not be happier. The boat is light enough to load and transport by myself. It fits me like a glove and is comfortable for 1-2 hour paddles. The boat is very stable and feels safe on windy, choppy days. It is also fairly quick. Fit and finish are excellent. It looks and feels like a quality product. I like it so much I hardly ever use my canoe.
Great Kayak to grow into
I decided on this kayak a year ago after several demos. I'm 6'4' and 210#. it fits me well, any taller not so much. New to kayaking, it took a few paddles to become comfortable stability wise, but I couldn't be happier now. We use our kayaks mainly in Central Oregon lakes and slow rivers and it does great. Did some kayaking last summer in a few bays and lakes in the San Juan Islands - again it was a blast. Love the light weight and structural rigidness getting in and out.
Excellent Choice...
I spent an entire season renting kayaks and taking others out on demo's and at the end of the summer I decided to buy the Eddyline Equinox kayak. I started out as a novice but decided to take several courses as well...with the hope of moving from novice to intermediate paddler. Considering my age and my expectations I wanted a boat that would not limit me as I grew more experienced. I also wanted a lighter boat then those poly kayaks yet I could not justify buying a higher end fiberglass or kevlar boat. The Eddyline's use a process called thermoformed or "Carbonlite2000". It is a hard shell finish that is abrasion/impact resistant, provides structure stability, is easy to repair and is lighter then the poly boats - although not as light as fiberglass or kevlar - but then they are priced less as well. After 8 years I think I made the intermediate level and I still love this boat. It provided me with very good initial stability and better yet very good secondary stability. I have done large lakes, big rivers (Hudson River), and coastal ocean (RI, MA). I suggest you demo as many boats as possible that are best fit for what type of kayaking you want to enjoy. I know for me the Equinox was an excellent choice and if I had to do over I would buy this same boat 100%/
Transitional kayak
This is a bridge between a recreational Kayak and a touring one. It has a roomy cockpit, I'm 5'11 and 240 lbs and I fit fine. It has no rudder or skeg, but the rear keel is basically shaped like a skeg. It tracks straight excellently, turning is sluggish. If you are getting into the sport or downsizing, this kayak will fit the bill. My other Kayaks are 17 feet, meant for longer and bigger and rougher water trips. This kayak is good for lakes, and close coastal trips . I highly recommend.
