Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

The best before, now even better

I have an older version of these pants (which has two side and two back zipped pockets), and love them. Comfortable, durable, easy to wash in a sink, and good looking enough to wear almost anywhere while traveling. I was disappointed initially by the fact that REI removed two of the zippers. But then I realized that they hid a new zipped pocket inside the left pocket. That plus the reinforced hem in the pant legs and a couple other nice additions like a small loop and hidden watch pocket make this version even better than my old one. Yes, the sizing is smaller than any other pants I own, and adding a black version would be nice. But these pants rock.

Redesign the zipper pocket and do deeper pockets
Ben Myers
Overall, a decent pair. Still, I struggled to put items into the zippered pocket inside the left pocket. And there is no way to close the zipper with only one hand, given its vertical orientation. How about a horizontal zipper that can be opened and closed with one hand? So the left zipper pocket was nearly worthless as a place to keep valuables such as my wallet and my passport. Finally, the pockets simply are not deep enough, and I often worried that something would fall out. Once a dollar bill fell out of the right pocket as I was sitting in a restaurant. The pants are a very comfortable fit, but the pockets need a complete redesign!

Perfect summer swelter pants

Really light weight and venty. Small breeze blows right through providing heat dissipation. Other reviews said runs small so I got normal size and one up. Normal size fits fine. Waist is snug; loose and totally unrestricting everywhere else. I didn't test abrasion resistance in wear around the house (twice) and all day yesterday on a hot site walk. Would expect problems if you were bushwhacking through heavy stuff. Waist band has stray threads that should have been trimmed at mfgr, but no other issues. Legs have nice heavy band about an inch wide inside at the very bottom. I expect this will help keep cuffs in good shape for a long while.

Excellent Travel Pants

I bought these pants just before my trip to Portugal and Spain. I wore them everyday for 8 days straight. They are light and breathe well. Didn't stain or look like they had been worn for so many days. Even on hot days I was comfortable. Since you can't enter many churches in short pants these are perfect. I had no problems with the pockets and appreciate the three zippered pockets. I liked them so much I bought another pair as soon as I got home because I know in a few months I won't be able to find them. That has happened to me before with other REI products that fit well but get discontinued after one season.

Great pant, magnet for lint/hair

I really like this pant. 4.5 stars. Pros: * Very lightweight fabric, comfortable in any weather above ~40F * Clean appearance, can wear these to the office * Hidden pocket on the thigh gives extra storage but does not detract from the clean appearance * Reinforced heel Cons: * Collects amazing amount of lint/hair. I ordered this in 3 colors. After a few washes, the two darker colors did not attract so much lint anymore, and I'm happy with these pants. But the lightest color still attracts a ton (which is more noticeable on the light fabric anyway). I have had to return this one. * No stretch in the fabric. I prefer prAna Brion as an alternative to these pants with an upgraded fabric. Other: * 30" waist fits more like a 29", which works for me but maybe not everyone.

REI Adventures

Purchased these pants for traveling, specifically Europe. Material is a quick dry, length fit is well (I'm 6'3") but the ability to move in them seems limited. I'm a fairly well built guy and the pants are tight (I HATE tight pants). These might be fine for a size 32" waste guy, but if you workout a lot and carry around muscle these pants might not be your thing. Construction seems to be well with them, pockets are fairly big. Hidden zipper pocket is nice. Cargo on the leg is good, but I can't really use it because if the tight legs. Wish REI offered these in a slightly looser fit.

Great product / Issue with certain colors

I have purchased the REI Adventure pants in a variety of colors over the years. As travel pants, none are better in my opinion (fit, construction, pockets, you name it). My only issue relates to colors. The grey (asphalt), depending on the year you buy them (and the dye lot) either has a green or blue cast to it, and does not go well with other greys. Earth tone colors are fine. Also, why no color black?

Solid Pant... but the sizing is off.

Own one pair, and have used them on a variety of outings, ranging from casual to full blown backcountry adventure. Thus far they've held up nicely, and handled various conditions better than expected. My ONLY complaint is the sizing... the 32" waist fits more like a 30" pant, which is a bummer each and every time I pop them on after a fresh washing.

Affordable backpacking or casual pants

Seems to be a slight improved fabric since I bought them about a year ago. Dry amazingly fast, but still strong and resilient. Slightly smaller fit than expected.

Super comfy and cool

Bought pair a year ago after trying them in in-store as hiking pants to provide coverage and protection on the trail. They have proven to be very comfortable, nice and cool and have held up well in brambles, mud and lots of sweat. I wear a 34 waist in Levi's and most dress slacks. The 36 waist is snug on me while the rest of the pants are very loose and baggy. I like them that way. Never bind, lots of pocket room. I just bought several more pairs online. I'll keep a couple from the really rough wear to use as casual travel pants. The concrete ones look pretty good white a white dress shirt.
