I purchased the Unisex Size 7. These mittens kept my hands toasty warm while skiing, but it felt like the thumb length was too long which made my grip less secure. I recently tried on the same glove in a Women's Size 7 and the thumb was cut shorter - so the Women's cut worked better for me than the Unisex cut. If you have short thumbs like mine, keep that in mind when purchasing!
I’ve only had the chance to use these gloves 3-4 times but so far so good. The removable liners are key. Easy to remove, wash and put back in. Leather is nice yet durable. The real test will be when temps get down to ~0F and below, but they were toasty at 15F even with my Raynauds.
I use these skiing and they are amazing. I wear some running glove liners just to keep my hands warm when I take my phone out and stuff like that. I've skied in below -20C and my hands were warm. If it gets closer to zero, I ditch the liners. Great craftmanship. I've run into other people with Hestra gloves who rave about them too.
I have some nerve damage in my left hand from a ski accident a number of years ago. My hand is very sensitive to cold . A week ago after purchasing these mittens I tried them skiing. It was 17 degrees and my fingers stayed toasty all day. Also a shout out for the fantastic rei service that’s always there.
For $160, you'd really hope these Hestra mittens would keep your hands warm. Unfortunately, this was not the case for me. I just sat outside in 15F weather for 20 minutes and my fingers got cold. Especially my thumb which was freezing. I tested these mittens against an $8 used pair of army surplus mittens and those kept my hands warm fine (I made sure both my hands started at the same temperature). It's ridiculous really. So, I guess I my quest to find a mitten that can stay warm and maintain the heat that is generated my fingers will continue. But I will be returning these. You'd expect a lot more from a mitten at this price point... Some pros: The mitten is stylish, comfortable, and versatile. If I were moving around a lot, I'd like to believe my hands would warm up a little.
I never ski without these. I’ve got crummy circulation and my hands are always cold, so I bring these skiing and they’re a true life saver. Also love the staps
Use for walking dog when below 15 Fahrenheit. Hands warm till about 0.
I have terrible circulation and cold fingers and toes always cut my ski days short. I tried several other pairs of top-rated, "warmest" mittens before trying these and these are the best. I've had them for several years and this season upgraded the liner to the Hestra heated liner and WOW. Cold hands will never keep me from the slopes again. Highly recommend!
These gloves are finely crafted. Buttery soft leather and liners so comfy you won't want to take them off. Very toasty, too. However, they are not waterproof worth a dang. Truth be told, these are not the Gore-Tex version and they don't purport to be waterproof, but I expect a bit more after shelling out this much $$$ for gloves/mittens.
These are the best gloves I’ve ever purchased and worth every cent! I regret wasting money on other name brand gloves only to discover they are no better than the less expensive kind. I’ll never stray from the Heatras!
