More than satisfied!

I purchased this down jacket as replacement for my synthetic fill puffer jacket, and I could not be happier! This jacket is thin unlike some brands who make their puffers necessarily puffy. This thin and lightweight coat provides plenty of insulation on colder than average days and can be packed down into a small easy to tote package or double as a pillow on backpacking trips. The 850 fill down holds lots of heat and I also love that all patagonia down is third party verified and traceable. Fits true to size, not baggy but still leaves room underneath for layering. All Around a great down layer that I would strongly recommend.

Patagonia Excellence Exemplified

Notwithstanding its being marketed as a sweater, this is a lightweight yet warm (800 down fill) jacket that, unlike the otherwise estimable Better Sweater, is both wind- and water-resistant. I have worn it with a Capilene 3 base layer in temperatures in the 30's and been formidably warm. The "Sweater," with or without a Capilene base layer, depending on the temperature, functions perfectly as a warm yet far from bulky mid-layer under my shell when skiing. The regular fit is ideal for my body type, and the pockets are spacious. Of typical Patagonia quality, the "sweater" immediately became and will my remain my go-to jacket and mid-layer.

Second jacket in 4 years... Great jacket!

I bought the bright yellow jacket that is somehow called, "fluid green". Takes a while to get used to the jacket color as you feel somewhat conspicuous. However, it's a great color because it does standout. The jacket is warm and light and just puffy enough. My first one, a gray one, the zipper started having issues recently. I sent it to Patagonia and the sent it back with a new zipper. No questions asked. If you're looking for a solid jacket that's got some style and stand up to years of wear, this one should fit your bill. Also, if you take care of it, when it does break, they'll fix it no charge.

Good until around 20 deg. F.

I have owned this Jacket for little over a year. I have noticed throughout my time using it, especially during mid winter, that I would prefer a jacket that was a bit warmer, and came with a hood. That being said, if you are not doing winter backpacking this jacket is a steal at its price point. Overall I have been very pleased with the product, and would recommend it to anyone with the above precursor.

Beware Patagonia Repair/Replace and New Sizings

I had the previous version in Medium, zipper broke, sent in for repair and instead of a simple zipper repair Patagonia sent a new medium. The new sizes are completely different: Medium is too small and Large is too big. BUT, and here's the kicker, Patagonia will only reimburse me $119.00 instead of the $200 I paid (and new version is $229 as one can see). I have spent thousands on Patagonia products (ski gear, fly fishing, backpacking, climbing, casual, etc.), and now feel burned by their repair/replace policy - and that they've changed sizing on much of their outer wear. Very disappointed, and will no longer buy Patagonia (welcome Arc'teryx).

Nice sweater

I got this sweater for Christmas and just in time for a hiking trip Big Bend. It was very warm on top the Chisos Mountains. It was also very easy to pack . Highly recommend.

Best in Patagonia line for down jacket.

I totally bought 5 for the past 4 years, 3 as gifts for my father in law and 2 sons. If you only need one down jacket and not living or going to in a freezing cold location, I highly recommend you for this one. They are warm enough for everyday use in winter, but not too warn that you want to take it out immediately when you get into a a/c environment. The available colours is great: the conspicuous bright colour for outdoor, while the grey/ blue is perfect for business which I carry around for my trips to cold location. It also fits and looks good as an additional insulate layer under a business coat if you need it.

down

Recently purchased, I have appreciated this product. However, a few days ago I saw what I thought was a loose white thread. Unfortunately, I chose to pull it. A big wad of down followed the thread, opening up a 0.5 cm hole. I returned the jacket to REI and received a full refund, but only because I was “a new member”. They considered the hole “normal wear and tear” and suggested next time I buy a patch kit. For me, paying $240 two months ago, I would not consider the hole “normal wear and tear” even if you consider me incompetent for pulling at the thread. If you find yourself in this same situation, don’t pull the thread. Better yet, don’t spend $240 on a product prone to this type of defect.

Worth every penny

I'm 5'10', 170 lbs and the large fits perfectly when wearing a layer beneath and is quite comfortable even without a layer. Went up to Mt. Ellinor on a clear, cold, sunny day. The temps at sea level were in the low 40's. The jacket kept me so warm that I took off the mid-layer/vest layer while watching the sun set over the horizon. After the good sweaty hike, and you know what I mean if you have hiked Mt. Ellinor's 6 miles roundtrip, the jacket looked no worse for wear. Comfortable jacket that keeps me warm when needed, feather light... just what I wanted.

good purchase, but not perfect

I've had this jacket for 2 years now, worn it probably 100 times. The warmth is amazing. It's become my everyday jacket on the trail and at home. I've worn it casually down to 5 degrees F with only a long sleeve t and a waterproof shell. I sleep in this jacket on the trail, and find it allows me to take my sleeping bag about 10 degrees beyond its normal rating. My only complaint is that it absorbs moisture VERY quickly, typical of down, so be sure to wear a top layer for any precipitation. Also, be careful with the zipper, as mine is already coming apart at the bottom and needs to be replaced. But again, this has been typical of other down jackets I've owned and this jacket has had a lot of use. As far as fit, I am 5'10, 175 lbs, wear a medium, which still leaves me room for a baselayer and fleece midlayer beneath the jacket when necessary. If this jacket ever meets its end, I'll buy the same jacket again. Great jacket for this price.
