My 10yr old champ loves it. Worth every penny

He said it was very comfortable and carried about 16Lb for 9.5mi (round-trip), climbing 1,600ft this week-end for his first overnight backpacking trip. That might not sound like much but, for his first experience, I did NOT want him to suffer. Very well designed, not too heavy and very adjustable. Salesman says, He'll be able to use this through high school. I thought, Yeah right but we adjusted it and I could wear it. With the top compartment only partially loaded, we did notice the top lid sliding forward (off the frame) a few times. No big deal. All in all, well done REI, sometimes I really think you guys opened this store just to show the big name brands how it's done!

Well thought out features

We bought this for my 12 year old son to join us on our back-country trips. There is plenty of room for him to grow with the wide range of adjustments. The pack could take him into his late teens. The oversized zipper for the sleeping bag compartment is genius. It can fit larger bags and compress down. It also sports it's own hydration bladder compartment that can hold up to 3L of water. It's very versatile and has features that will last for years to come. Great option for growing kids. Much more versatility than other brand name packs that we explored. Great value too.

Great pack

Bought this for my 16 year old son, but I expect his younger sister will also make use of it. The range of adjustment is great. The sleeping bag compartment makes packing the sleeping bag a breeze. I love how the pocket in front is designed to push out a little. I have other packs that those front pockets are hard to use once the pack is full. We used this for a Boundary Waters hike and I expect to get many years use out of it with my kids.

Perfect pack for kids

This pack is full featured from external pockets to hydration bladder ready to wide-mouth sleeping bag storage compartment. Materials feel very comfortable yet rugged and the stitching is solid. Highly adjustable to get the perfect fit including torso length that can grow with your child for a few years. Waist belt and shoulder strap density is spot on too. Very impressed. I highly recommend this pack.

Great pack you can grow with. Lots of adjustments.

Bought this packfor my 14 year old boy scout. He likes the comfort and all the pockets. Clean looks and everything you need in a pack without a bunch of useless stuff. You will want to add a hydration kit because the side pockets are hard to get a water bottle in and out on the go.

Great Pack for Young Teens

I bought the blue version of this pack for my son's 12th birthday. When we lucked out and drew a permit for Colchuck Lake in the Enchantments, he loaned it to his big sister (13) and took along his older, smaller pack. She was "enchanted" with it! It's well organized and well constructed, and just the right size for kids from about 65 pounds on up to 100 pounds or so. She loved all the "secret" pockets and the design of the top flap; I loved the strategic tie-down locations, the general sturdiness, and the fact that she loved it. Her birthday's in March, and she has a new pack of her own already stashed out in the garage. My gallant son finally gets to try out HIS pack on the Yakima Rim this spring. We'll see how that goes, but for now I heartily recommend this pack.

Great youth backpack

Christmas gift for my 12 year old boys. Perfect size and capacity. They used is as their "SUITCASE" for a weekend trip. The liked all the compartments and straps. They want to add the water bladder in the spring

Perfect pack for a Boy Scout

I bought this for my son, a Boy Scout (age 11). It is a fantastic backpack that will last him for several years. It fits my wife perfectly, so she can use it after him.
