My new go-to winter shirt
I bought this shirt about a month ago and love it every time I put it on. Since I've transitioned to a quasi-nomadic existence, I've pared my wardrobe down to 3 shirts and this is my favorite. Paired with a vest it, makes any weather bearable - from the humid snow I just went through in Seattle, to the dry and windy cold of Nevada storm fronts pushing through. On its own it provides a perfect layer for chopping wood outside, or enjoying the fire inside the wall tent. I'm a big guy (6'1 230) and the XL fists me perfectly. It even looks great when I return to civilization after wearing it for a week without washing (though it probably smells a little smoky).
Be Careful
I bought this shirt in 2015 and I still love it! As mentioned in the other reviews, it is thick and quite warm. So I was very happy to save a little money during the REI sale and I bought 3 more. Unfortunately, Patagonia has gone cheap - this year's shirts are much thinner. The fit is fine, but they are not much better than the flannel shirts you can buy elsewhere for much less money (even at the sale price).
Heavy, soft flannel with a classy look
While searching for a 100% cotton flannel shirt in a brown hue, I came across this excellent shirt in the Java Brown / Fancy Chambray color. The material is thick, heavyweight, very soft and warm. The subtle, dark diagonal lines woven into the fabric give it an elegant look for urban adventures and hanging out with friends. This versatile color matches many pants colors. The fabric is sufficiently furry that it will probably pill up a bit unless hand washed and not tumble dried. I suppose that is a trade-off in getting such a lush and comfortable fabric in this weight. I am 5'11", 155lb. and got a medium. The fit is generous on my slightly lean frame, but not excessively baggy. I can use it as a main shirt or overshirt and the straight bottom hem makes it more versatile for wearing out or tucked in. This is my first Patagonia shirt and I will consider more in the future.
Best Flannel Shirt
I am 5-11, 210 lbs., 43 " chest. I am usually in between a large and an XL. Large in this shirt fits perfect with t-shirt underneath. This is the perfect weight flannel- not too thin and not too heavy. Color and neck opening lay perfect with this shirt. Incredibly soft- this has become my go-to flannel after a long search. I now have three of them. They go on sale periodically. For some reason the fit of this shirt is better than the light wt. version. Pull the trigger on this shirt when it goes on sale! I hope this review helps the folks in search of the perfect flannel shirt.
Stand-Out for Soft & Warm West Coast Weather
Grew up in Southern California and you used to see these kind of shirts in most beach towns, especially in the early morning and late evening. Fits with a roomy feel over t-shirts and always looks like you have had it for years. You will be asked where you got it at restaurants and at the beach. When you are asked the brand and say Patagonia nobody believes you until you point out the shirt patch. Since buying the first one, I have ordered three more. Sturdy construction and hassle-free washing instructions for continuing wear. Hate to take it off when it gets warmer.
Fall Staple
Love this flannel! I find myself wearing it multiple days each week in the fall. I'm 6' 150 lbs and have the size Large. Super comfortable to throw on over a T shirt in mild weather or wear underneath a down jacket when cooler. I've done some light hikes in it and it was great but I'm usually wearing this at home, work, or around town as opposed to on the trails. Bought a second one after wearing my first so much! If they weren't as pricey I would have several more.
Pretty much the perfect flannel
Had a couple of these over the last few years. They're super soft and durable, with a great look and fit. I'm 6'1, 195 and like to wear a Medium. The straight cut hem is nice, but I do wish the sleeves were just a half inch longer to allow for better range of arm movement, and to accommodate the very slight shrinkage. I don't want to size up because then the shirt is baggy everywhere else. Great plaids and colors this year too. Stock up!
Husband LOVES it!
This flannel is super soft & really warm; perfect for colder weather. It’s my husband’s new favorite item! I will mention there seemed to be a big size discrepancy between the L & XL. The large was an exact fit but we were worried about possibly shrinkage from washing so contemplated going with the X-Large but it was SO much bigger that we stuck with the L & decided to cold wash/flat dry which is working out just fine. Otherwise Patagonia quality is exceptional in every way & we’ve never regretted any of their brand purchases
Love (Fjord) Flannels
I'm 5'7"+, 140pounds, lean/athletic build. Small fits nicely, maybe a little loose out of the box, but not awkwardly so. The first flannel I have had for about six months and I love it so far. The second have only worn once to this point. They are very soft and warm and I have been very please with the purchase of these two flannels. Depending on the colors, I would buy additional shirts (I love flannels). I was lucky enough to get both on sale, and at the price I paid, it cannot be beat.
Great Flannel
Everything a flannel should be. The material is soft and warm. Can be used buttoned up or unbuttoned, as I prefer, with a nice tee underneath. Im 5'09 , 165 pounds, athletic build- medium size was spot on. I bit loose around the middle, but fitted throughout shoulder and arms. So far, I purchased 3 different colors for the cold season.
