Rated 4 out of 5 by from super comfortable pack! I bought this for an 8 day (97 mile) hike I did in Scotland earlier this month. I'm not a super experienced hiker, and haven't done a lot with hard-framed packs before. This is an unbelievably comfortable pack. Big enough to fit the essentials and then some for a long day-hike, including multiple layers, food, first aid kit, etc. Lovely little hooks on the sides for trekking poles to hook into which make them easily accessible. Shoulder and hip straps are soft and didn't dig in or chafe at all, and I didn't have to adjust them once during the entire 8 days. The bladder being in the lumbar area is a thing of genius- the way it centers the weight of 3L of H20 makes it hardly noticeable, and adds some lumbar support as well. Speaking of lumbar areas, the mesh backing does a bang up job keeping airflow between you and the bag and prevents the creation of a lake of sweat in the low back area. My only beef with this bag is the "overflow" pocket, which is big and open without many pockets or any way to easily organize things you want to quickly grab out of there. Necessitates getting smaller stuff stacks to keep things easy to get to. Otherwise, this is a fantastic little bag- super comfortable, super lightweight. I'm very happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Third time's the charm. So glad I didn't settle. After doing some research I bought two bags, the Camelbak Aventura and a Mountain Hardwear bag and I was so disappointed that I couldn't make myself like either. I packed them with gear and wore them around the house and did chores for several days with them and the Aventura was weird with the new NV backpanel, which I found extremely uncomfortable when both partially loaded and fully loaded, and the Mtn Hardwear didn't have the support I wanted. Then I went to the REI store while on vacation to return the two previous bags and I found this one. I wore it around the store for an hour and a half and was IN LOVE. It was so comfortable I was afraid it was too good to be true. While there I ran into a Camelbak employee (who was randomly there shopping) and he explained the thinking behind the lumbar bladder and told me this was a new pack exclusive to REI--which is why there were no reviews on it anywhere. (I'm not as in love with the lumbar bladder as I hoped I would be, but I don't like it any less than a normal top loading bladder either.) I LOVE the shoulder straps on this bag--even when fully and heavily loaded this bag is amazingly comfortable. I love how the back is designed with an inside frame sheet to stabilize the pack's shape (so whether it's partially or fully loaded it keeps it's shape and comfort), and how the mesh liner lifts the pack off your back for amazing breath-ability. I also love that there are so many attachment places to hang your gear from and I love the little hip pocket that easily fits my iphone for quick picture taking. It's great how long and thin this bag is, it makes it easy to climb in and out of rock chimneys. Two things I wish were different: I wish there was that there was more breath-ability along my lower spine, but that's kind of impossible with the lumbar bladder there, and it's really not that bad. And I wish there were one or two more little zippered pockets in the main compartment to organize and stash things, or at least a pouch for sunglasses. I have to give this five stars though, because I'm so happy with it as a whole. I've taken this on several long hikes, including a peak I bagged yesterday in Glacier Park that took almost 12 hours--this bag was so, so comfortable despite being fully loaded with a full bladder, a heavy Mark iii DSLR, bear spray, a long sleeve shirt, jacket, first aid kit, hiking poles, unused gaiters, food, etc. When you forget you're wearing a bag and you never need to adjust it for comfort (because sometimes during a long hike, you just have to do that--though yesterday I didn't even once), you know you've found a good one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute Colored Backpack I gave the title I did because that really is all I could like about the product at the end of the day....I am new to hiking and asked for someone to help me get a pack. I asked for either a daypack or a hydration pack. I thought I really liked this until I got it home and wore it around the house for awhile. I took out the bladder, which is located at the base of the pack by your lower back area. This is a weird shaped bladder (did not see any replacements like it on the bladder aisle) and once you filled it, HOW do you get it back into the pack.....not good. This is definitely a negative. The pack also was too long for me and kept digging into the back of my neck, I should have caught this at the store, so this is my fault. This is a hydration pack. I felt what I was really looking for was a daypack, so I returned the Spire and purchased a nice Deuter ACT trail 28 SL pack & tehn purchased a Platypus 3L widemouth bladder - super nice!!! The sales clerk was Awesome to work with and never pushed me to make a decision, let me wear the pack around the store forever :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Odd size pack Got this for my teen to use as an overnight pack, but it's too small to hold a sleeping bag, but too big as a day pack. Nice pack, just an odd size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camelbak Spire I really enjoy the Camelbak Spire 22. It's my first true back pack and it hasn't let me down. The support and functionality are superior.
