Makes a big difference in desert heat

I am new to wearing other than cotton t-shirts and sleeveless synthetic workout shirts for hikes on hot days. I got advice to do differently, to wear a loose-fitting, light layer, and covering up more, and gave this a try. In about 7 days of hiking in temperatures 80 to 100 degrees in Southern Utah, this shirt kept me cooler than I've experienced before. A loose, light, airy layer is a great thing in the heat, at least in high temp, low humidity. Highly recommended. This is well-featured, nicely vented at upper back and under arms. The two pockets are useful too. The collar that folds out and up protected me on a long hike with the sun at my back. I was comfortable at 97 degrees with the sleeves rolled down (needing sun protection), but enjoyed them rolled up most of the time. I could unbutton the shirt (advantage of a button-down front) to cool off. I took it off a couple of times and air-dried it (of sweat) in about ten minutes, just holding it in my hand. I also wore it two hot days in a row, without the chance to wash it out. It did well. This shirt is great, but I am sure similar ones from other makers would perform well too.

I have been buying Ex Officio products for years. This shirt is about my fourth or fifth Air Strip shirt. My sense is that this updated shirt may appeal to more fashion conscious men, but it doesn’t appeal to me: the pockets in this version are too small for the notebook and glasses that I liked to carry in them. My sense is that, oddly, the button holes are slightly smaller. Not sure about this, but the buttons seem harder to fasten. I cannot either recommend or not recommend the shirt. What to ? For me, two stars. For someone else?

Epitome of premium quality!

ExOfficio Men's Air Strip long sleeve shirts are the epitome of wilderness travel fashion whether on or off the trail. I have covered more than seventy countries from developed nations, third world and emerging states and it is the ExOfficio Men's Air Strip long sleeve shirts I use whether on or off trails. This shirt is rugged, durable and extremely long lasting when used off-trail, even when bushwhacking through thorns that otherwise would rip normal shirts to shreds. The front cargo pockets are extremely functional and the zipper security pocket inside one front cargo pocket provides added safety for carrying cash and credit cards. The Air Strip shirt is technical apparel at its finest in fashion and function. The three position sun collar is a life saver if you do not have a neck gator available for wear in the sun. The shirt itself is rated UPF 30+ and with side and back vents that open for air circulation one never feels the need to strip the shirt as a redundant layer. I always purchase the long sleeve version because it has roll-up sleeve tabs for turning the long sleeve quickly into short sleeve. I use the utility tab for hanging my sunglasses instead of for fly-fishing, which I do not do. The pen slot is neat and functional, but my one complaint would be for this slot to be larger to accommodate thicker writing pens, or even a small pen-light since many room hallways and rooms themselves in third world countries afford little lighting for finding dropped items or sliding room door keys into proper slots. These shirts come in a multiple variety of delicious colors, dry quickly after being rain soak and are light to wear. I do recommend strongly, though, that ExOfficio consider adding an inside collar loop for hanging the shirts on hooks in cabin or lodging rooms. The ExOfficio Men's Air Strip long sleeve shirts definitely are 5 stars rated.

Best Guide Shirt

This is the lightest and longest wearing shirt I have ever owned. I am a salt-water fly fishing guide and have used this model shirt for 20 years. Just wore out the first 3 bought 20 years ago. I live and fish in the sub tropics with high humidity. This shirt lets air circulate around your body making the heat and humidity a much smaller factor.

Best Ever! Wears like iron

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Over the last 25 years I have purchased many of these shirts and I must say there is no equal - no buttons falling off, roll up sleeves and durable as the day is long. I live in the mountains of Idaho and live an outdoor life. I have recommended these to many friends and no one has ever been disappointed.

Perfect travel shirt

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am traveling a lot , both for business and pleasure, and this is my favorite travel shirt for the last 20 years. I own 7 or 8 such shirts of a different color, ant i find it the most useful and universal item in my travel bag. The shirt is lightweight, durable, has excellent ventilation, large pockets (one zipped) that can hold documents (or even a wallet). The shirt is easily washed and quickly dries, can be very comfortable on a track and looks presentable at a conference. Please find below several images demonstrating several excellent shirts of this type.

best tech shirt made

Best tech shirt made--period.. I fly fish 100+ days a year.. I hike and backpack.. I write, review products, rep products, and design flies for a living.. I owned a fly shop for 15 years and sold Simms, ExOfficio, Columbia, Redington, and a few other shirts. I have been given or bought shirts from Orvis, Patagonia, etc. None stands the test of time like the Air Strip has.. And none performs better on the water and in the woods..

I wore only two ExOfficio Air Strip shirts

For 114 days I led the first expedition in history to raft and kayak the first full descent of the entire length of the Blue Nile. During the entire adventure, all 3,300 miles of class 5-6 rapids, 14 foot crocodiles, blinding sandstorms and marauding bandits I wore only two ExOfficio Air Strip shirts. After 114 days of daily washing in the muddy Nile (and drying in three minutes in the Sahara air) they arrived at the end of the trip in perfect condition. Of all of the equipment I have ever used on an expedition, from the summit of Mount Everest to the Nile, no other product of any type has ever held up as well as my ExOfficio shirts.

Poor fit

I have used the airstrip shirt for fishing, sightseeing and traveling throughout the world for years and the new fit does not give the comfort and allowable movement that made this shirt famous. You need to bring back the unrestricted, lose fit that made this shirt a staple in every seasoned travelers wardrobe. Your brief description of updating should not be geared to a slim fitting shirt for style. For those that outings are styled for the coffee shops there should be other alternatives. This shirt is a premier workhorse on and off the road that requires a lose fit that is functional for the adventure traveler and the sportsman.

Better fit for average guys

I have a batch of Air Strip shirts from around 2014. They were great, but the fit was always off. I'm 6'2" 180. The medium size was a bit too short, occasionally creeping up above the waist belt and showing off some belly. I was swimming in a large. The new slim design of the L/S in medium is about an inch longer than before, and now it's perfect. The pockets seem to be the exact same size as my old shirt, and the fabric mix is the same (73% nylon/27% polyester). It seemed like the old shirts were made for big fellas, so I can see why they'd be upset. For me, it's a great improvement.
