I like this tent a lot. It's got a sturdy design and the fly works well. I sleep with the doors open even during a light rain and it's fine. I've never had any problems in the wind. It is on the light side so I use it as a roomy 1 person tent or a somewhat snug 2 person tent. Pros: I love that there is only 1 pole part to set up so it's super easy to set up. The colors are great. Cons: I'm not a huge fan of the tear drop door shape- it makes for awkward zipping motions. Also, for anyone taller than 5'10'' I would go for the T2 plus. It's the perfect size for me (5'3'') but is a tough fit for anyone over 6'.
Took this tent camping when it was in the mid/high 30's, with an 1 1/2+ of rain and a steady 30 mph wind....The tent did great. There was a lot of condensation, but it stayed on the inside of the rain fly (the benefit of double wall tent) & I was dry. I had to close the vents on top of the rain fly because of the rain/wind. I think the condensation would have been much less if I could have opened them. A 40+ mph gust came thru the camp site. It caused the poles to bend quite a bit, and I was worried, but they bounced back & there were no problems for the rest of the night- I suspect the asymmetrical design helped. I inspected the aluminum poles when I got home and they looked perfect. I originally purchased the T2 version of this tent and it was a little short (I'm 6'1" tall). The T2 plus tent size is perfect. Those few extra inches make all the difference in the world. I would recommend the the T2plus for anyone close to 6' or over. I can't wait to use this tent in better weather.
Purchased for use in Scouting. I meant to have my son use it on a regular basis and then for us to use when we go on long hiking trips (Philmont, Tetons). However, the tent was not nearly as big as the description, being nearly 6 inches shorter and 5 inches thinner than described. At 6'2'', there was no way my older son could have used the tent, even sparingly, if he had to have 2 people. I returned it. That said, it was made well, easy to put together, could easily be carried by 2 backpackers on the trail, had plenty of headroom, and would have been a good tent if it had fit.
It was admittedly howling (well over 30+ mph gusts), but this tent broke in the wind on me when it was properly set up. The pole broke at one of the plastic connectors, which was essentially impossible to repair in the field. To me, that's not acceptable for a backpacking tent. I'm now increasingly skeptical of these complex tent designs for anything other than car and campground camping, which this tent is good for. I don't think it's any mistake that this strange design of the Quarter Dome was discontinued after a year or two.
I bought this tent to take my wife on her first backpacking trip. We just got back from Paradise Lake out in the Sierra's and it was awesome. It was light and had plenty of space for both of us. There was a chance of thunderstorms over the weekend, which dumped marble size hale on us for an hour, it gave us cover and we waited out the storm without a hitch. At night the skies cleared and we pulled the rainfly off to look at the stars, which were amazing!! We're looking forward to many more backpacking adventures with this tent.
This was first adventure with this tent and it rocked it! I was very comfortable! I bought the 2 person for that reason. I am 170lbs at 5'10" and had plenty of room around me. I wouldn't recommend the one person unless you are just looking to squeeze space or weight. I was in the woods for three days and the last night through final day it rained steadily and I was dry and cozy the whole time.
Well designed tent. If you want free standing, look no farther. However, get the plus if you are over about 5"10".
I have had this for 3 years and it is perfect for me. I use it for myself and gear. It is small and easy to carry by myself
I recently purchased this tent as a replacement for an older 2-person tent, and am happy about my choice! Pros: Lightweight; Everything is color coded which makes setup super easy; Free Standing; More Headroom than I was expecting; Nice bathtub floor design which I expect will help keep the weather out. Cons: The teardrop shape of the doors makes zipping/unzipping them a challenge, if not impossible, with one hand; The orange crossing poles are asymmetrical which results in a strange torsion on the overall tent body making the 4 corners of the tent a little uneven on the ground; REI didn't send enough stakes to set out the guy lines that came with the tent, I know the factory stakes are not the best, but it seems like a full compliment of stakes would have been appropriate. Neutral: I am right at 6 foot and in the standard T2 size I can lay down straight, in the middle of the tent, with a couple inches to spare above my head and below my feet without touching the walls, any movement in the night and I am touching, it is a tight fit but the light weight makes up for the inconvenience; The width of the tent would make it pretty tight for more than one adult, could be perfect for a single backpacker or a couple who don't plan on spending much time inside; All in all, I am very pleased with this tent, I read other reviews before I purchased it which helped me decide on the T2 instead of the the T2 Plus, which I don't regret (so thanks!)! If you are looking for a more spacious 2 Person tent and plan to spend more than just sleeping time in it, the Plus would probably be a better choice. Happy Camping! ME
I purchased this tent a few years back at a garage sale. Somebody did not like it, but I love this tent. I am not the tallest guy at 5'6" but my backpacking buddy is over 6'. (Nobody else around me likes backpacking :( ). We have been on several adventures thus far and sleeping head to toe we both fit comfortably. If it is just me I have room to spare with my gear. The tent is easy to set up, and does not add substantial weight to your pack. I chose the two person over the one person, because the added weight was only a few ounces, where as the extra space was worth it to me. When hiking with two people it is easy to split the weight among the two. We wrap the poles in the foot print for one person and the tent and rainfly for the other person. I cannot comment on weather proofing as I she only been out in light drizzles and not heavy rains. So far I have stayed dry in the tent. If this tent fits your needs, buy it. If you are tall buy the long version for a roomier fit.
