Rated 5 out of 5 by from all you need for bagpacking i was referred to this site by a fellow traveler who insisted i should get this particular model backpack. first off i would like to say the customer service is excellent and the process could have not been any better. i ordered it on a Friday and it arrived at my house by Thursday (a day earlier than expected delivery). The pack itself is quiet roomy for the one month travel i am going to do in Europe. I had a lot of pockets to hide important valuable things as well as a detachable mini pack to carry on you while exploring the city. although the price might discourage anyone, but if your serious about taking on the hobby of traveling, than a good quality backpack is a great investment. im very pleased with this pack and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting quality service and product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for travel I am a 5'7'' woman and I bought this back in December 2016 and just now got to use it for my 16 day trip in Germany. The main pack was able to fit all my clothes and I packed pants and long sleeves since it was forecasted to be cool temps there. The smaller pack was great for taking with me while I walked around different cities. It was light weight and not super bulky so it was nice on the crowded subways. The security pocket on the back of the small pack was also handy for keeping loose change in. My bag weighed about 35lbs (16 kgs) with all my clothes and souvenirs coming back and I felt the straps distributed the load very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome pack! My husband and I purchased these travel packs for our 10 day adventure tour of New Zealand in January. The packs worked great! There was an ice storm in Chicago the day we left and it was so nice to be carrying these packs on our backs instead of trying to roll a suitcase through the ice and slush. Additionally, there was plenty of room for everything we needed for our trip. My husband has decided that this is his new suitcase. It's a fantastic bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent travel bag! REI nailed it with this one, great price, durability, comfortable, and you can take out the metal frame and actually squeeze it in carry on if needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very heavy bag but does the job right! Alot of compartments, great for traveling overseas, very heavy when filled up with clothing

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Little Large / Compression straps not great This is a great bag, the day pack clips on the front of the shoulder straps for easy transit. However this volume mixed with the V shaped compression straps makes for difficult packing, only compressing 1/3 gear

Does the 85L include the detachable daypack? If so, what's the volume of the main pack on its own?

Asked by: lbkrantz
The 85 liter gear capacity includes the detachable daypack. The volume of the main pack only is 66.5 liters.

Does the main pack by itself meet the requirements for carry on luggage?

Asked by: tacoosh
You can gate check this pack though, and on international flights it fits just fine.

Where can I find instructions on proper use of the rain cover? Interested in how to properly use in the rain as well as when checking the bag on flying.

Asked by: Mike Holczer
We do not have instructions published for the rain and travel cover for the Grand Tour, but it is easy to use. To use it as a traditional pack rain cover: 1. Place the cover over the main body of the pack, leaving the shoulder straps and hip belt exposed, with the cord lock at the bottom of the pack. 2. Pull the cord snug around the outside edge of the pack, again leaving the shoulder straps and hip belt exposed, and cinch up the cord with the cord lock. 3. Tuck the zippered side flaps of the cover into the side of the pack, and tuck away any excess cord. To use the cover as a travel cover so that the pack can more safely be checked as baggage: 1. Place the pack inside the cover and tuck in all straps 2. Zip the two flaps together 3. Pull the cord tight, so that the pack shoulder straps and hip belt are protected inside the travel cover. Cinch up the cord with the cord lock, and then tuck away the excess cord.

How do you adjust for torso length on this pack?  Is it similar to a mystery ranch pack in that regard?

Asked by: Jondrews
To adjust the suspension of the Grand Tour 85 Travel Pack, reach your hand between the mesh back panel and the panel attached to the shoulder straps. Push your hand down and fully separate the hook and loop. Once separated, raise or lower the shoulder strap panel. The torso size numbers (18" – 21") are printed for easy reference.

Does this Pack include a Sleeping Bag Compartment?

Asked by: boyscout01
Due to the design of the Grand Tour, it will not have a separate sleeping bag compartment.

Is there a place to buy the day pack by itself? I recently purchased this pack at an rei garage sale but the day pack was missing.

Asked by: Brupp
We do not sell a replacement day pack for the Grand Tour. Any daypack that is 17" x 11" x 6" or smaller will fit in the sleeve.

How feasible or advisable is it to go backpacking in this pack? I understand that this is primarily a travel pack, but can it also be used to backpack?

Asked by: Bookworm79
It’s possible to use this pack for backpacking but we do not recommend it. The pack is not built with a suspension system designed to carry heavy loads comfortable and safely over longer distances. This pack is best suited for travel.

I am considering purchasing this bag for an upcoming 5-week trip to Australia. Would this pack also be suitable for camping/back packing trips?

Asked by: Nate99
The Grand Tour has a good suspension that can work well as a backpack. This pack will be heavier than an equal sized pack that is designed for backpacking. The better backpacks will be able to carry more weight comfortable. The Grand Tour may lack some features that are backpacking specific.
