Great for Camping and outdoor lighting

we've used this a couple of times, and I am going to trumpet what everyone else has said about this lantern. It is a bright enough lantern to play cards by on a picnic table; it illuminates a 6-8 man tent pretty well and it has great battery life because of the efficient LED lights. I really like this lantern because it is so much smaller and effective than our old camping lantern (you know, that big green one); even with car camping it is nice to conserve space. It is not the most inexpensive piece of equipment, but i am finding well worth it because of the immense conveniences and performance.

I love this lantern

While not ultralight, it's light enough for shorter hauls into the woods or for emergency use & car camping. The Appollo throws some good light for its size. For this model, they have a unique way to dim the light - by holding the power button down triggering the light to fade, and releasing when you get to the desired lower luminosity. Black Diamond also makes a larger and smaller model, unless that has changed. Using the light on low setting and not letting it run unnecessarily will maintain the battery life for a long time. I use mine nightly as a reading light for about 10 minutes and only change the batteries every couple of months. I have also purchased enough so that I have a lantern for every bedroom in case of a blackout.

Very Handy

Got this to use car camping. It's about the size of a soda can and casts a nice even light over the interior of our Kingdom 8 tent. I knocked off one star because the light always starts off at bright instead of "remembering" its last setting. Can't speak to run-time, yet, but don't expect it to be an issue with four AA batteries driving it.

Great lantern!

I paid full price for this, so it caught my eye when it went on sale. I've had a tone of lights lights for camping, and this is a great addition. I just used it for a week of camping in the white mountains and the batteries lasted the whole time. Sure a headlamp is all you really need, but it is nice to have some ambient lighting when you can bring a lantern. I had a butane one about this size with a mantle and everytime I went to use it, either it needed refilled, or the mantle was damaged. With the led lights, they are now good enough, and energy efficient enough that fossil fuel lights are a thing of the past for me. This light has enough output that I don't think I'll be using my big coleman white gas lantern ever again. Great light, buy one!

Great lantern!

Great lantern. Used it for car camping in California. Another group had an older Coleman lantern and it was obvious which one was much brighter. Clever design to elevate the light or hang inside your tent. Might be too big for backcountry (those super concerned with backpack space). BD always has great technical gear!

Leave the big gas burners at home

Had one, loved it and found this one at the outlet. A great light for car camping, although on the heavy side for backpacking. So far both have been very reliable.

Let there be light!

Rizzle likey... Works well for lantern's sake. Good and compact with a great amount of light. I use it when cooking or playing cards on the picnic table. Pack it for car camping and you'll be happy. Hang it on a string for a bunch of surface area light. All around I'm happy with it...I've got the mini version for inside the tent. Both are great.

Great Light

I recently took this lantern on a 5 day snow shoeing trek in Wolf Creek, CO. It was perfect for what I needed. I ran it on the highest light output setting for about 4 hours a day and changed the batteries once. That in my opinion is pretty good. I also intend to use this light for a hunting trip coming up next month as a primary camp light. So, in short, yes i would recommend this lantern.

Great little lantern

Great little lantern that throws off lots of light. It even has excellent battery life (I use Low Self Discharge NiMh). I like that you can control the light level from the power switch, and if so desired, further tweak the light by adjusting the position/height of the globe. I'm really happy with this little lantern and recomend it to others.

Sweet light and a steal of a price.

Surprised by how bright this compact light really was. Easy to turn on and off and the adjustment was super simple. Very impressed so far. Nice hook on top to hang and legs seems nice and sturdy.
