Great jacket for the weight!! Love this jacket for cool but not real cold weather. As the other review said, this is good to 30 degrees, on it's own. Put a shell over it in colder or windy conditions and it beefs it up!! Great fit to go under a shell too. Used mine with the M10 jacket in 20 degrees and blowing snow and was perfect. Stuffs to put in my pack on any hike. Love it!!!
This is by far the best piece of clothing I have ever purchased. Honestly. I have lived near the beach in Southern California, in the mountains in Sequoia National park, have traveled to Israel and the Dominican Republic and I have made sure this is with me wherever I go. It's incredibly versatile and my go-to jacket. The jacket is incredibly comfortable. It's surprisingly warm for cold weather and can work as a nice afternoon jacket in warmer weather with the front unzipped and sleeves pushed up. Their updated hood design fits well with a baseball hat and snuggly fits under the neck. I preferred their past neck design because it is more flexible whereas this current model is rather stiff. I'm also glad not to worry about being caught in a rainstorm with this jacket. It will keep me warm even when wet. With being wind-proof and water resistant, this is the best jacket. The entire jacket packs nicely into it's own chest pocket. I prefer this over other jackets where you need to keep track of a separate pouch. Even though the price is high, you are definitely getting your money's worth. Beyond the Patagonia name, you are getting their Ironclad Guarantee. After having my first Nano Puff destroyed and replaced by Patagonia, I trust them more than ever. Next time you are in REI, go find this jacket and try it on. Then on your next camping trip when you are warm, cozy, and happy, you'll be glad you did. You're welcome.
Lightweight, comfortable jacket for 30F degrees and above.
Well it's after the holidays and I was bargain hunting for a new jacket. I use that term "jacket" loosely here because the definition of "Jacket" has changed. I tried on competitive jackets from Mtn Hardware, NFace, Mammut and Columbia. The Mtn Hardware jacket ($115 on sale) was cut very high in the arm pits for me making it unwearable. North Face's Thermoball Hoody $149 was a disappointment. It was stripped down to the point that it didn't have an interior liner or stash pocket. It was also massive in the trunk area making it baggy on me. Mammut's Pigot Jacket is a well designed and constructed jacket and is the only real jacket on its own in the bunch. Unfortunately for me the Primaloft Down Blend was just to warm to hot for the average Colorado winter day. Otherwise I really like that jacket and it was the least expensive ($113 on sale) of the group. Columbia's Turbo Down 650 with Omni-Heat $139 on sale was way over the top warm. Warmest of the group it went back because I was sweating in it at 25 degrees. If you're someone who gets cold go with the Columbia-crazy warm! I came across the Nano Puff Jacket on a clearance rack tried it on and it fit me like a glove. I went online at REI and ordered the Hoody. I use this as a daily run around jacket, but I always keep a shell handy because there is nothing like layering when facing the elements. This jacket excels at layering and compacts nicely as a mid-layer. Even though the Nano Puff Hoody is the most expensive, even on clearance at $185 of the group, the form fit and finish of this jacket is a cut above. It never pays to buy anything that kind of fits to save a few dollars. For me it was worth the $35 extra dollars to get a great fit, this jackets goes everywhere because of it. The Red one is currently on sale in my size so I snagged another one as a backup!
i have snagged this thing twice and i've never even walked through a wooded area with it. be prepared to have to tape or sew the thing...for the price of the name though, i'd expect this thing to be like kevlar. aside from that it's fine.
This is so light weight and thin, I was concerned about the warmth and construction but wow was all that for nothing. This is warm without a layer down to 40 and with a fleece vest it's good to 32. The sleeves are a tad long but fine. I'm 5'9" 155lbs and medium is perfect.
This is a great jacket. Light enough to carry with you, packable, and very warm.
The XL is true to size but there's barely enough room to wear a midweight fleece underneath. I'm 6' of average build with broad shoulders and XL fits relatively well. Bought this on sale in Underwater Blue [teal] and it looks nice. Autumn temps have begun to fall into the 50s and this jacket is NOT acceptable to keep you warm. It's lightweight and it just blocks out light breezes. You MUST wear a midweight/heavyweight fleece underneath and have to keep moving. Warmer clothes underneath and a shell on top is a Must if you want to keep warm! Had a tshirt and lighweight fleece underneath and I was COLD! I kept warm from walking a few blocks to and from my house. Now imagine when the really Cold temperature comes late in autumn or in winter?! The hood fits well without any drawcords but really needs a cinchcord to pull the hoodtop back and it needs a built-in hood visor. The sleeves really need some thumbholes at the end which some other jackets have which pulls the sleeves over the wrist further for more warmth protection. The elastic wrist cuffs just barely forms a nice fit to keep out the wind. The inside hand pockets are NOT lined, just with the fabric but should block out the wind but won't provide any addition warmth so gloves are needed for colder temps. The price of this hoody is similar to a lightweight down jacket (Expensive!) with the difference that down doesn't stay warm when it gets wet.
