The most versatile dry bag backpack I've found.
I bought this bag two years ago to keep my gear dry while running a fishing lodge in Alaska. I wanted something I could fill with gear, throw in the bottom of the open boat during a rain storm, and forget about it. I chose this over the less expensive Sea Line. I was hoping the more substantial straps would make it more versatile. I found the better straps made this bag comfortable enough to carry for three or four hours. Soon I found myself hiking, hunting, back country skiing, and wading waist deep while fly fishing with thug bag. The unfailing waterproofing and relatively comfortable straps outweighed the few draw backs this bag has. I am 6 foot, and 230lbs. With waders and heavy rain jacket, every millimeter of waist strap is used. Another issue is inherent issue with dry bags. It is cumbersome to open and close the bag, and durring large rainstorms I have to limit how often I open the bag. I remedied this by adding a small 5L bag to the outside for frequently accessed items and attached my camp axe to the outside. The small number of tie down points on this bag limits this but I have been able to work with it. Overall, this bag was bought to be a dry bag that I could carry like a backpack on occasion. It has proved to be much more than that and is now my go to bag.
Most versatile back pack I've found
I bought this bag for a canoeing/hiking trip, but found that it was much more. It quickly replaced my traditional internal frame. I'm 6'0 205 and this bag fit me and my needs for a 4-5 day trip with ease. Its super light weight and requires no rain cover and offered surprisingly great support. The only obvious downside is that it has one compartment, but given its other advantages it's worth considering for an every occasion pack. On our trip we rolled the canoe and as with any sea to summit product not a drop of water entered the bag. The straps dried quickly too. If you're a go everywhere do anything kind of person that loves to find that one product that can meet all expectations then this bag might be the one for you.
Don’t buy this portage pack!
Purchased this portage pack for extended canoe trips. Within a couple years, the vinyl started delaminating and the bottom fell out with minimal portages. The bottom and sides are vulcanized and not reinforced with stitching. Similar portage packs used by my Canadian friends were reinforced with stitching and have lasted them over 20 years and counting. The Sea to Summit packs look nice but are worthless because they are so poorly constructed. Don’t buy them because they’ll just end up in a landfill within 2 years. These packs failed me miserably and will never purchase Sea to Summit gear ever again. Go with Bills Bags by NRS.
Best pack for BWCA and Quetico
I have tested alot of packs and this pack is hands down a must have. The durability and thick walls will take all of the stress and worries of getting your gear wet. Let it rain! I was tired of my gear getting wet from water in the canoe and simple paddle splashes. This pack removes that leaving you relaxed and dry. This pack makes packing up fast, just open the top and quickly drop your gear in...no need for straps, 20 some zippers and hunting to find what pocket you put your gear in. I have the 90L and that fits all the personal gear for 2 on a week plus trip. Tent, sleeping bags, clothes, rain gear, etc...with room to spare.
Best Dry Bag I've Ever Used
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought my first Hydraulic Dry Pack for a month long Grand Canyon raft trip. It exceeded all expectations and all of my friends were jealous. First, it has the classic roll top closure which is tried and true keeping things dry. The backpack straps are more than comfortable for slinging it over your shoulder and lugging it from the beach to camp. However, the lash tabs are my favorite feature. Each day I'd typically place this bag on the top of the rig pile to have straps cross over the body of the bag and attach securely in four separate spots. Our stuff wasn't going anywhere! Naturally I had to buy a second bag, I'm hooked!
The weight- its super light when compared to comparable packs.
While I am a month away from some significant field testings I can say this is a great pack. The overall quality of the workmanship from the welded attachments to the pack itself, the quality of the harness and its adjustability, and it great design features make it stand out as both high quality and worthy of trips deep into the wilderness. I have no doubts that this pack will perform beyond expectations in Labyrinth Canyon and Quetico. Maybe the most compelling reason to purchase this pack above others is the quality of the harness system (including waist belt) in relation to its weight: its a win win combination.
Excellent dry backpack
I think this pack has the most ideal suspension system. There are other systems out there that can optimize carrying on your back but they lose packability on the boat. I can strap this to the back of my non Tyzip packraft or put it inside the rear area of my Tyzip packraft. I remove the straps to remove entrapment hazards when I strap it to the back of my boat. It can be a little difficult to remove and reattach the center harness point especially with cold hands but it works. This bag is also among my most durable drybags and possibly better sealing. I have the 65L and the 120L packs and am happy with both.
Great bag...needs better straps
This is a great bag, it's bomber and comfortable to wear. I took it on multiple wet canyoneering hikes in and around Zion. Contents stayed dry through multiple swims and floating across water obstacles. Was never fully submerged as it floats. The bad part? The nylon straps for the waist and shoulder straps slip when they are wet. It was so annoying, I ended up hiking and holding the waist straps and used a carabiner to tie the ends of the two shoulder straps so they wouldn't slip. S2S, please fix this and it gets 5-stars! Note for when buying, its a roll top bag...might want to size up. I got the 65L for a day pack and it was perfect. The 35L would have been way too small.
Canyoneering
I have 3 of these hydraulic pacs, two 90 liter and one sixty. I use them predominately for canyoneering because they are comfy and save me several lbs weight over a regular pack and dry bags. I have had a couple of issues, one was my fault because I really didn't take care of the pack and put a small hole in it from sharp rocks, the other was a manufacturers defect. Both issues were handled in spectacular fashion by SeatoSummit. I repaired the pack i put a hole in with their advice and the manufacture defect was replaced immediately as soon as I sent a picture of it. I also use them on my rafting trips!
The Hydraulic Dry Pack was
The Hydraulic Dry Pack was light weight, kept the contents dry, and works good while portaging a canoe for over a mile in Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
