I actually bought this for my 11 year old son to climb Mt St Helens. These were the smallest gaiters I could find. They did the job well however the fit at the top was slightly large for my kids skinny legs. Had to cinch em up tight and the buckle was a little difficult to get a good clamp due to the excessive bunched up material. The solution of course is to make a junior gaiter (hint hint). Thanks for a great product.
Along with other OR gear, I used these gaiters to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro and they were amazing!! Sadly, I lost them after the hike. :( I've never been more satisfied with jackets, gloves and now gaiters as I have been with OR. Thank you for making a challenging hike comfortable (at least in the clothing department). :)
Really great gaiters. Perfect for snowy and muddy hikes. They stay in place really well and are very comfortable.
I wear these gaiters multiple times each week leading outdoor lessons for students. From skiing to snowshoeing to winter hiking, they hold up and keep snow out of the top of my boots. They're durable and they do their job well. My only problem: I have plenty of calf space in my size large gaiters, but I'm short on space for my boot to fit. I have quite slim winter boots that just barely fit inside the gaiter - the fit it a little too tight for my liking. They work really well with my hiking boots, but if you're looking to wear these in winter - definitely size up!
With days away from a multi-day back country trip (Gros Morne, NFLD) I couldn't find my gaiters!! I ordered these online - although they arrived promptly, I didn't not have an opportunity to test them in advance. I was more than relived and delighted . . . with 5 days of mostly wet, and rugged conditions (Tuckamore) - these gaiters protected my boots and pants from extreme wet conditions and the wear and tear of the hiking terrain. Also - a great fit (adjustable). I didn't even have to think about them - a true sign of excellent gear. #veryhappyhiker
Just took these on the West Coast Trail of Vancouver Island. Anyone who has done that trail knows the wet, muddy disasters that await you over every crest. On MULTIPLE occasions, my foot was completely submerged to the top of the gaiter and my feet stayed totally dry and protected. I'm talking, splashy, gooey, suck-you-down-a-rabbit-hole mud bogs. (Anyone done the trek coming from the south into Walbran Creek? Dear. God.) Many members of the group mentioned the "gaiter-invincibility" factor that gives you the confidence to splash through anything! These definitely gave me that. Washed them off every night in the nearby freshwater stream and they came out looking fresh as new in the morning. Outdoor Research products do not disappoint, and these gaiters are no exception.
Wow! These were almost 3" too small for my BARE calves!! I ordered a large (I wear a 10 shoe) and these didn't even come close. I'm truly stumped how these are supposed to go over pants, socks, boots, etc. when they won't even go around my leg. What a massive disappointment. And I had to pay to return them!! Ugh. Here's an idea: Put the calf circumference in the description so people like me don't have to waste time and money.
I bought these last minute to do the Wonderland Trail in mid-June after hearing about the high snow levels. I was impressed with these gaiters. They kept my shoes and shins dry during long days of kicking steps in the snow. They also stayed put around my calves and didn't make my legs sweaty. They only thing was I wish they were lighter! Still, I will be using them on future snowy hikes and would definitely recommend them.
I finally bought my first pair of gaiters as I am an avid hiker in good ol' New England and I Love them! Though they are not the fully waterproof/Gore-tex ones, I wanted a more versatile, lightweight 4-season gaiter and this is exactly what that is. They are durable enough to withstand rain and light snow, yet also light enough to wear in muddy/dusty/desert landscapes as well. Great product for a great (pro) price.
The first time we took these gaters out, the Velcro tab broke making them difficult to use. Otherwise they are light weight, waterproof, keep the mud, snow and wet out of your boots. I'm pretty happy with them. They stay in place well even on aggressive terrain or thick bushes. I took them on a deer hunting trip to Kodiak Alaska and they performed their functionwell in very wet conditions.
