Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love This Bike! My sister purchased this bike (21 speed but has returned it for a 7 speed since the chain kept coming off) and once I tried it, I also ordered one as well as my sister in law. Saturday we picked up my bike and the 3 of us headed out with our new townies for a 3 hour bike ride. This bike is awesome! Its very classy looking and I love how smooth it rides. I had no problem changing gears to accommodate the type of area we were riding on. The accessories were readily available and I added a rack, water bottle holder and cell phone holder (on the handlebars). Can't wait to go riding again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bike for Paved Roads My wife wanted to buy this while we were shopping at REI. We tried a couple bikes and this one was perfect for her. Great design, lightweight, smaller grip to break distance as she has smaller than average hands for a woman and comfortable seating. This is definitely a casual bike (it's called Townie for a reason) that should only be ridden only on paved roads as there are no shock absorbers. We both went on a 3.5 mile bike ride around one of the lakes around here, paved trail of course, and both had a wonderful time without any hiccups.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable ride ever I bought this bike in the Cranston store. Dave in the bike shop was fabulous. I rode the 21 speed but liked color of 7 speed. He checked to see if he could get it in the color I wanted in 21 speed. He set up,both 21 & 7 speed for me to try outside. due to his fantastic customer service I bought the bike at REI . I had other options of places to buy the same bike but genuinely appreciated Dave professional, kindness & honesty. I purchase only from people & places that give me the excellent customer service received from Dave.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bike Ever!! This bike is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. I use it to ride around town and on trails. It has just enough gears and is so easy to ride. I bought it for exercise for my bad knees and it really helps. It feels very safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electra Townie 7D I bought this bike a few weeks ago after waiting 7 years to find a bike I could step through so that I could sit on the seat and still have my feet on the ground. It is a breeze to ride and so comfortable. No backaches!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike! Based on the positive comments of several friends, I boght my first Townie (original 21D) two years ago. When it came time to replace my other bike (I usually have 2-3 at a time since I don't drive & bike everywhere instead), I knew I wanted another Townie & went with the 7D this time. So far I have used it for my 15 mile RT bike commute, and shorter trips like grocery shopping & had a great ride every time. Since I will be using it for shorter rides, shopping, etc. It is a tiny bit more of a bumpy ride since it doesn't have suspension like my other bike does, but it is not enought to detract from the ride at all. On days when my back is bothering me I really appreciate the step-through ability. One suggestion check around the various REI stores to get the color you want. The store I went to only had 3 or 4 colors. I did appreciate theat they were willing to have me order a different color & would put it together for me upon arrival at the store. But of course I wanted one right away! There are so many other fun colors outt here, though....I may need to buy another one!

will this bike fit a woman who is 5'11"?

Asked by: sailor girl
The Electra women's bikes will be too small for a woman who is 5'11". The men's Electra bikes will be a better fit.

I'm 4'11" will this bike work for me

Asked by: Lily
This bike is not the best fit for anyone shorter than 5 feet 4 inches tall. We recommend looking at women's bikes that are available in size XS.

How much does this bike weigh?

Asked by: knee deep
Unfortunately Electra does not provide us with the weights of their bikes. Currently there is no industry standard for accurately quoting the weight of bikes. Frame size, componentry and whether or not certain accessories (reflectors, racks or pedals) are included with the bike can cause a significant variance in bike weight.

Can different colors be ordered in the stores? Does this bike come with fenders? I test drove one in East Hanover, NJ and I remember that it had fenders.

Asked by: gbracke
It is possible that your local store could order a different color in the Townie 7D. This can vary from store to store so we would recommend checking with the store closest to you. While other Townie models come with fenders, they are not included with the 7D model.

I was in a store the other day looking at this bike, going over the specs w a sales person and it had quick release tires but I don't see it listed here. Does this bike have it or not?  Also, does this bike not come equipped with reflectors?

Asked by: Bee28
This bike does come with quick release skewers and reflectors.

Can you stand up and ride up steep hills? I HAVE HEARD IT IS DIFFICULT ON THIS BIKE BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS A PLUS FOR IT.......

Asked by: slackaction
The pedals on the Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike are in a more forward position compared to most bikes. Given this configuration, it can be more challenging to pedals up hills.
