Purchased this to expand our cargo capacity for a 4500 mile road trip.. in a Honda Fit... with three kids in car seats. It served well as a receptacle for bulky overflow gear (playpen, sleeping bags, dirty laundry...) and proved almost weatherproof. The only exceptions were a few drops (less than a tablespoon) of rain getting in the front during a torrential downpour in Iowa and a bit of dust infiltration from 40-50mph crosswinds blowing dust near Amarillo. To speak of wind - windy conditions are the only time I noticed the presence of the box as driver. In addition to a bit of handling difficulty in strong gusts (to be expected with a big box on a small car) gas mileage took a hit proportional to wind speed, as much as 5-8mpg in the crosswinds mentioned above. It does also land a minor hit on gas mileage when driving at interstate speeds even with no wind: ~2-3mpg. Below about 65-70mph didn't see any significant effect (unless it was windy). All in all we're quite happy with the box, and it will be seeing a lot of use for camping and road trips in the future.

Easiest install ever

I bought this box for my wife's 2016 subaru outback. She and I installed it in 5 minutes on the subaru factory cross bars. After 3 days I hand tightened it again but t barely required more than a fraction of a turn on each of the four fasteners. The only issue I have is it gets a very slight amount of water into the box. It comes in through the openings the four fasteners pass through. They are all in a small cavities on the floor of the box so the amount is small and wont come into contact with most items. Since I do not plan on moving the box I will simply apply liquid rubber tape over the slots and expect this to remedy this very minor issue.

Don't need to buy a bigger car yet

Instead of looking into purchasing a bigger car than our Toyota Prius hatchback, we purchased this Thule box to expand the cargo space for long road trips to family and on outdoor adventures with our toddler son .It makes the car seem so much less cramped. It can fit our Thule Urban Glide Stroller (without the wheels) as well as my golf bags OR our hiking child carrier. It is waterproof (survived torrential downpours and a Chicago winter) and durable. It has created some additional drag on the highway, and thus reduced fuel efficiency, but we still get around 40 MPG so no major complaints. I would highly recommend.

Exactly what we needed

Drove from MN to CO for a ski trip with 4 adults and 2 1 year olds. In addition to ski gear, we had lots of cargo for the children. The roof box was perfect. All of the skis and poles went up there as well as umbrella strollers for the kids and ski clothing. There is a 110 pound limit and we weighed things before we put them up there to be sure we stayed under the limit. I did buy a cane to help in moving cargo around within the roof box -- this was very helpful. Also, I made fabric sleeves for the skis so they wouldn't cut the roof box or other items carried up there. It was fairly windy (cross wind) on the way back, and it didn't bother that we were carrying the roof box (designed well for that sort of thing). Very happy customer.

Perfect fit for my Hyundai Kona!

I recently started looking at various roof boxes as I was in need of more storage space since my Hyundai Kona has a limited trunk capacity. After some research, I ended up purchasing the Thule Pulse M as the dimensions were perfect. The roof box is currently attached to a 3rd party roof rack/crossbars; the clamps seem to be able to attach the box universally to any type of roof rack. When it comes to the storage space, I'm able to store a bulky graco stroller, an infant's "pack and play" crib, and a large duffel bag and yet still have room leftover for additional items/backpacks. The roof box also comes with two adjustable straps to tie down any loose items, but I suggest purchasing additional bungee cords to keep everything in place. I've also taken it out in a snowstorm and heavy rain and everything has remained completely dry. Overall worth the purchase!

Did EXACTLY what I wanted this to do

I bought a 2103 Subaru Crosstrek....and was concerned about being able to accomodate four golfers with equipment....without having to take down the back seat, and make two guys sit on each other on route to course because of clubs. This roof rack was big enough to load four sets of clubs (two cart large bags, and two carry bags). It did what I needed it to do. I didn't want to get a bigger car simply for the ability to handle four guys and clubs! And even going back to airport, the guys two hard shell cases with clubs fit in this Thule roof case! I got lucky and bought the display item at REI...so the salesman helped me bring it out to the car..and I clamped it down with four clamps in less then a few minutes, and was off! I can lift it on and off the car by myself....not too heavy. I'm very happy with this product! ljw

Bad lock

The second time using the box the lock failed to release the key when I locked it. I jiggled the key, attempting to dislodge it whereupon it snapped. The keys are incredibly flimsy. I returned the item to REI, but only after the manager argued with me and said this was somehow misuse. Apparently the burden of proof is now on customers to show that they weren't abusing the product when it breaks. I doubt I'll buy another Thule box and I think I may be done shopping at REI.

Short Lifespan

I've had this 4-5 years. From the first, it seemed flimsy, though it does hold a lot 3 years ago the key stopped working, and I hold it shut with a strap. This year a hinge broke, and I can't get it to stay on. I have never been able to screw the claws tightly enough to keep the box from sliding back and forth across the roof. I have used square Thule bars and round Yakima bars. The box will need replacing. I expect more fromThule.

Very Convenient

Used this Thule Pulse to move from NJ to IL. Attached this bad boy to factory roof rack on 2008 BMW 335XI. Was able to store clothes in grocery bags up there and able to use the rest of the car for bigger items. I recommend if you pack clothes in there to use trash bags so just in case it rains, nothing will get ruined. I haven't used this in the rain yet, so I can't write about how it handled. I also plan on using this rack when I go skiing as well. Hopefully the the other reviews in regards to to the cargo box carrying skis will hold true. The roof rack is super easy to attach to roof rack. The fact that you can lock the rack came in handy since had to stay overnight in hotel with drive to IL. In regards to gas mileage, the best I got for whole trip was 26 MPG (all highway driving) which is not bad considering I get in 27 MPG with no cargo box attached. When driving in the city areas, of course I got much less, don't know how much because MPG averages out hwy/city driving. If I had to say anything bad about this purchase is that when the cargo box is empty and you go over bumps and what not it makes rattling sound, but other than that the Thule Pulse XL is amazing storage for the money!
