Opened up a third seat in the car

We got this beast for a road trip to Alaska. In it, we stored 3 fully-loaded backpacks, 3 tents (for variety), fishing poles, hiking poles, and a ton other junk that I can't remember. This meant that we stored way more than the recommended 60 pounds, with no issues. I loved the idea that you could open both sides (one at a time, of course). With the aftermarket Aero Bars, it worked great. I did read another review for this on another website (think of the river that traverses South America) where the dude had an issue of the wind catching the front lip, lifting it up, and everything getting wet inside. As we pushed 90 mph many times - ahem - as we pushed the speed limit many times on this trip through lots of rain, this never happened to us. I think his issue was that his front crossbar was either even or slightly higher than his back cross bar. The way our was set up (following directions to the "T") the front was slightly lower than the back, so the box would catch the wind properly. With that trip, we put 10K miles on this box and it came through with flying colors. We are still using it; nothing has gone wrong with it yet.

Great Roof Box / Pod for Alot of Stuff

I used this pod on top of my Ford Expedition for a 2000 mile road trip this summer. We loaded it to the max weight limit with all kinds of things from golf clubs, luggage, camping gear and tools to life jackets and dog food. The box worked flawlessly. It opens from both sides and stays tightly mounted to the roof rack. We drove through numerous thunderstorms and high winds and everything always stayed dry. The only thing I would change would be the way the hinges open. They seem a bit flimsy which may be due to the fact that they have to open both directions.

All around great product

Debated between Thule and Yakima like many others, and the mounting system was the difference maker for me. Originally purchased the XL, but wasn't big enough so upgraded to the XXL. Just used it for road trip to Florida with my 7month twins, and able to fit all their stuff in box and explorer with room to recline front seat and see out the back!! Overall very happy with the Force. Easy to install and move. Could do it by myself since its light enough and the handles are simple. Only a small amount of noise driving and I didn't notice any impact to fuel usage, and we drove through mountains, rain storm and sunshine. All dry!! Only downsides are the flimsy top which makes it a bit more difficult to close, especially when full, and the locking system can be challenging when the box is full as you need to get it all lined up perfectly. The cargo straps are useless and be better off getting your own elastic netting.

Free up your travel space in the car

Just got back from a 3000 mile, four National Parks road trip. This was the cargo box's first outing. It performed beautifully, storing all our gear (and REI purchases) and allowing my daughter and me plenty of space to sleep in the car when it was pouring outside. We had high winds with rain near Mt. Shasta and amazingly our stuff stayed dry. We tightened the knobs a wee amount at our next stop and they never needed tightening again, even with the really high winds in the Mojave desert (there's a reason all those windmills are there). When we opened the cover on the sunroof, the noise at highway speeds was quite loud, but when the cover was closed, we didn't notice it at all. The only annoyance was the difficulty in getting it to close/lock when it was packed full, it's tricky. It would help if one person squeezed the box at the front while the other squeezed it closed at the back, then turned the key to lock it. It was a cinch to install: take it out of the box, get someone to help you lift it onto the crossbars, then tighten the four big knobs so that the clamps go around the crossbars. I'm happy with this purchase and recommend this carrier.

XXL is too big for an Outback Wagon

We have a '16 Outback Wagon and the XXL is just slightly too long to be able to open rear lift gate. The XL fits perfectly. Great quality, less than 5 min to install. AWESOME PRODUCT
