Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable! I finally decided to try to switch out the hip belt on my Osprey Ariel pack (early 2015 ish), and I am so happy I did. The mesh on the hip belt that came with it (isoform hip belt) would rub uncomfortably on my hips (my pelvis is very prominent in the front - the ASIS for you anatomy buffs out there), not to mention the hip belt seemed a little small. The smooth material is definitely more comfortable on my skin - I'm not worried about 'breathability' that the mesh offers so that wasn't a factor for me. I measure 34" around where the hip belt should sit, and according to osprey's website the women's medium hip belt (which is my pack size and original hip belt size) is for hips measuring 30-34", and the large is 33"+. I got the large size and it feels MUCH better than the medium. I haven't hiked with it yet, but I put some weight in the pack and immediately the weight feels better distributed on my hips. I was getting a lot of pressure on my ASIS from the original isoform/medium hip belt, I feel like my ASIS sits more centered in the large size and I don't feel excessive pressure (I could actually feel the indentation from that bony prominence in the original hip belt and it's only a couple inches from the center ends of the belt). Although I went up a size, you can see in the picture that the bioform is a little larger overall than the isoform.

What is the difference between the IsoForm and BioForm hip belt?. Will both work on an Osprey Aether 70 2016 pack?

Asked by: MarkZ123
The Bioform4 CM Custom Moldable Hipbelt is "beefier" than the Isoform version. Yes, both of these hipbelts work with the 2016 Aether pack. Note that the current "4" versions do not work with older Osprey backpacks.

Can the hipbelt be heated and molded at home or must this be done in the store using a special heating stove as suggested in the Details above?

Asked by: AmyIlene
From Osprey: The process of heat molding is delicate and should be done by an Osprey CM Certified Dealer only. Please do not attempt to heat mold your Osprey CM hipbelt at home. Heating the belt in anything other than an Osprey CM Oven could damage the foam and voids the warranty.
