Vasque boots on El Camino de Santiago
euskalerri
I have walked El Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela this past August, took 31 days we had hot weather, cold weather and rain pouring weather for 3 days non-stop, We had elevation gain up to 4000 feet in harsh terrain and asfalt, this have been the best boots for this journey, I saw thousands of pilgrims and all different brand names of boots from different countries. Most of the people developed blisters and friction to their feet, I had none. During this walk I encounter 4 different individuals that wore the same boots, asked how they work for them and I got the same outcome as the one I was experiencing. Thank God for those boots I am a lucky one that may the right choice in buying them.

Unacceptably low quality for an expensive boot

There have been things I have liked about the two pairs of Vasque Breeze 2.0 GTX hiking boots I have owned since December 2013 (e.g., balance between light weight and ankle support, Gore-Tex protection), but the drawbacks outweigh the positive aspects at this point, and I feel compelled to warn others about the quality issues I've experienced so that they can make an informed decision about their purchase. 1. I've owned two pairs in less than a year and a half because I had to return the first pair when the stitching on the side of one boot started coming undone. I hadn't used the boots on many hikes at that point, and nothing happened specifically to stress or damage the area where the stitching came out. I think the boot was simply poorly constructed such that the stitching would come undone from exactly the activity for which the product was designed: hiking. I gave Vasque the benefit of the doubt, hoping the defect was an uncommon one and not a sign of bigger quality issues. Now I'm not so sure. 2. I used the boots on a 10-day hiking trip in April 2015 that involved hiking in the deserts of Utah and Arizona. Within a couple of days, the boots started feeling uncomfortably tight around my toes and the sides of my feet. It turned out that lots of sand was getting into the lining of the boots through the mesh panels, and it was collecting in large pockets between the lining and the outer wall. It was difficult to get the sand out, and, of course, more sand got into the boots with each subsequent hike, so shaking sand out offered only temporary relief. I’ve spent probably another half an hour shaking, massaging, and banging on these boots to try to get the sand out since I’ve returned from the trip, and there’s still a ton of sand in there, which I can feel when I’m wearing the boots. I called Vasque’s customer service on 4/22/15 and learned that this is a known problem; the openings in the mesh are too large, so sand and silt pass through easily. Vasque is looking into putting better mesh into later-produced Vasque Breeze boots, but there is no commitment or plan yet; I was told I could call back in several months to see if a decision has been made. Thus, if you are planning to hike in an environment with sand or silt, I strongly recommend against buying these boots. If you are planning to hike in other environments, I still think you’re taking a gamble. It boggles my mind how such an obvious issue was not planned for in designing this boot in the first place, and I find this an unacceptable problem given the price tag for this product.

Swamp Hiking

After eight years I finally gave up my older pair of Vasque for the new Breeze 2.0 and I love them. I hike quite a bit in the swamps here in the beauty of WNY and I needed new solid boots. The two things stood out to me that stood above the other features that one would expect, such as being out of the box wearable, was 1) the warmth and 2) the gripping lugs that saved me from an unexpected potential wipeout. 1) My first time wearing them out on a hike I wore my wool merino socks along with the sock liner for it was in December and we have been having storms like crazy. While hiking I had to stop and remove my outer socks and just wear the liner because it was too hot. This is a huge game changer for me in my hikes and camps. 2) My friend and I took a quick hiking trip after a chill that froze the swamps and the paths. Well, we were not being as cautious with our walking as we should have when we stepped out into a path Nicole wiped out and when I should have wiped out my amazing gripping lugs held me in place even on ice and I didn't suffer her fate ... she has since purchased a Breeze 2.0 but the African Violet color Thank you so much for a fantastic boot that is lightweight, warm and waterproof from the slop that we mucked around in.

Didn't even need to break them in

I bought these during the Labor Day sale this year for a Labor Day backpacking trip. Needless to say, I didn't allow myself much time to break them in. Lucky for me, even after a 14.5 mile loop and over 3500' elevation gain, I didn't have any problems aside from sore shoulders. My feet were tired by the end of the day, but I didn't have any weird rubbing or blisters (thankfully). They look great AND they feel great. I bought a half-size up from my normal size, so be sure to try them on in the store before buying! Still comfortable with somewhat thick hiking socks on. Great product, check these out if you're in the market for a boot upgrade!

Best Hiking Boots Ever.

I broke these boots in at Bear Peak in Boulder, CO during a snow storm a couple of weeks ago. I was concerned because they don't look waterproof - although the sales person at REI assured me they were. AND SHE WAS SO RIGHT. Not a drop of snow/water got in the boots and they were very comfortable during foot deep snow for my first hike in them. Very happy. We then hiked at Reavis Waterfall Trail in the Superstition Mountains just a couple of days ago (my 2nd use of these boots). We hiked about 16 miles in 1 day in 75 degree heat. So totally different conditions from CO. And my feet felt great. Not too warm and very comfortable. I am very happy with these boots and don't hesitate to recommend them.

Great boot

They were a bit tight for my older feet but I stretched them a bit with shoe stretchers and they are wonderful now. I have major ankle problems having broken them both. These provide nice support and fit with my braces on. I love them. I do use custom orthodics so I can't comment on the arch support. I have high arches and insteps. These are a little tight through the instep when I'm not walking but during the walking they are totally comfortable. I would buy them again.. might even get a second pair. So far I've put over 200 miles on them and they are holding up very well. They keep me dry through puddles and pouring rain as well.

Awesome boot

So I did the thing that you're NEVER supposed to do with hiking boots. I bought them on the Saturday before a weekend backpacking trip to Olympic National Park. I really didn't wear them much at all before the hike started the next Friday. I did 5 miles, up a really decent incline and they were great. I have a wide foot - not unusually so - just a bit wide for some boots and I have an issue with my left ankle. These boots were great. Nice an high for the ankle protection and a nice wide toe box. I bought a 10.5. I can really be anything between and 10 and 11 so I think they fit true. Great boots and would totally recommend them.

Very satisfied with my purchase

Awesome pair of boots! I'm 23 now and have been doing hikes since high school without a reliable pair of boots. This christmas I splurged on myself and finally got a good pair of boots. I immediately took these out to a long hike in the Cascades called Mount Teneriffe Road Trail. This hike is 14 miles with 4000' of elevation gain along the way and these boots held up fine. The hike varied from rock, mud, slush, and snow, and these boots were solid in every condition. After the hike the boot was dry and kept my foot warm throughout. While going over rocky terrain these boots helped cushion my foot and the next day my foot felt fine.

Great Backpacking Boot

I bought these for a backpacking trip I went on this summer and unfortunately only had a couple days to break them in beforehand. However, when we got on the trail they were great. The fit didn't allow my foot to slide too much on the steep trail but there was just enough room in the toe box that my toes weren't cramped. The ankle support was great and the grip on the trail was also excellent. I did choose to try these on initially after reading other reviews saying that they were a bit on the narrow side. Since I have narrow feet I felt this might be a good fit and it was. Definitely recommend these boots to anyone with a narrow foot and a long trail ahead of them.

Great shoe, very comfortable!

This was my first hiking boot purchase. The nice salesperson at an REI in Washington State showed me a lot of options including the Merrel. My fiance, who is an avid hiker told me if it hurts don't buy it. This was the only boot I tried on that did not hurt when I tried it on so I bought them. I made a great choice. I just moved to Rapid City, SD from the Spokane area and have enjoyed every minute of them. The first test in them was a short hike around the Rushmore Needles, including some scrambling around some very steep rocks and tricky boulders. Even though I was breaking them in the boot felt comfortable. No pain at all. The traction is great, although I did fall on a downslope trail full of Ponderosa pine needles. (My fault-wasn't paying attention) I even tried climbing with them a bit and they had great traction on the rock..(although I did switch to climbing shoes later.) They had its first really big test hiking up Harney Peak, the highest point east of the Rockies. It was a long hike, but they felt amazing! The terraine was steep in some places and there were a lot of rocks on the trail but Idid not slip once. Great traction. They did hurt a little going down slope around my toes and got some "hot spots" but my fiance suggested I tighten them a little more and the were fine. The good news: No blisters!!! Not one! I am so happy with these boots and am glad that I invested in them.

not the same as the older version

I bought a pair of Vasquez breeze several years ago and they have been great. Wore them right out of the box, never got a blister. I am sure I have put at least 600 miles on them, including the whole John Muir trail, before they started showing signs of stress, so I retired them to light day hikes only and didn't hesitate to order another pair for future back pack trips. However, the design has changed and so has the quality. They are narrower, even though I ordered the wide ones. I figure I could wear them in a bit, but after a short day hike they were pinching my toes all around, and the new rubber toe protector started peeling off, after a 5 mile trail hike. I did not expect that at all.
