Good starter vest

I bought this vest a little over 8 months ago when I got my first kayak, a sit-on-top. With multiple adjustment straps this vest is easy to snug up or loosen in order to get a good fit. The cut allows me comfortable range of motion without rubbing or hotspots. I like that the pockets are large enough to carry various accessories like a short hank of 550 cord and a folding knife. I think I would have liked options for organization of pocket contents, though. I would also have like a dedicated loop on the lower part of the shoulder strap to attach a whistle, and perhaps some strips of reflective material on the back for added visibility when the bright red color isn't enough.

Very Comfortable even on long paddles.

Love the way it fits. Especially like that the back panel sits above my kayak seat. After two trips on Lake Superior (Grand Marais, MN and Apostle Islands)I couldn't believe how much more comfortable it was than my old full coverage PFD. I highly recommend this PFD for kayak paddlers.

Great InVestment

I'm notoriously cheap but the investment in this jacket was worth it. Fits comfortably for kayaking and I never feel like it's in the way or restricting. I considered cheap $20 vests but I'm glad I went this way! I'm a 5'5" woman, size 8 and it fits well

Great vest!

Looked for a pfd that doesn't ride up. Unique transverse straps ensure that it stays put! Color is an attractive true red, not burnt orange as the photo shows. Have only used this a couple of times so cannot speak to long term durability.

Good price for a decent vest

Decent vest for the price. Material feels solid and not cheap. Nice and light and doesn't feel bulky. Lots of adjustments. I don't really dig the pockets but I really don't care to much. I'm sure there are better vests out there but this is solid for the price.

Did exactly what it's supposed to do!

The Stohlquist Trekker did what it was supposed to do. Keept me afloat! My Wife and I took a couple of Kayaks out to demo at Lake Tahoe. We switched yaks and I was test driving the smaller one (11.9'). To me it was twitchy from the get go. Sure enough, 5 minutes in it tipped me right over. The Stohlquist kept me bouyant until I could get back in. I went with another yak! Anyway the Trekker is comfortable. For fit, I'm 5'8", 165 and about a 42 chest. I went with LG/XL. There is enough arm cutout so you are not rubbing against the jacket as you paddle. VERY Important to look for sufficient cutout. Straps are easily to adjust. If there is a very minor knock, it would be excess strap management. But honestly, I did not notice and it was not a hinderance. Two, nice pockets up front. Was able to stow some money, CC and ID. Other pocket has a "D" ring. We bought tiny carabiners so we could attach a whistle to the D ring. On the back there's a small square tab if you want to attach a small knife or something else with a clip. The backs are nice and high. Mine comes to about middle back. The lower back has a mesh lining. The kayaks seats we tried were not an issue at all. It was about in the mid 80s on the lake. There appeared to be sufficient ventilation and I did not find it hot to wear at all. It was quite comfortable. Don't cheap out on your safety. I would recommend to find a place to try them on for fit. Our local REI had plenty to try out. If you are driving yaks, make sure the backs are high enough and there is sufficient cut out for your arms. Overall, I would highly recommend the Stohlquist PFDs.

Good fit

As a bigger guy it was nice to find a vest that didn't steadily creep up so it felt like i was wearing a turtleneck. I would buy it again

Nice Vest

Fits well. Very comfortable. The back does not "get in the way" in my sit in kayak. Front pockets are handy.
