Great looking, less functional
I loved the look of this fleece, and I was looking to replace a much older REI fleece in similar colors. I still love the way it looks but living with it for a while has exposed its limitations. There's no pocket, for example, and no chin guard at the top. The fleece is very thin (you can see through it) and not very warm, nor is it windproof. It's more like a fleece shirt than a sweater. That said, my disappointment is more that there are fewer situations in which I can wear it, because it looks great--the color blocking and exposed stitching make it fit right in with the Kuhl aesthetic. Buy it for looks, not for warmth.
Nice product, until it pills. And it pills quickly
Loved the look of this 1/4 zip. Unfortunately I'm on my 2nd one and the pilling takes away from the look, makes it sloppy and cheap. The 1st one I had lasted a month before the pilling started, which was only on the front. On the 2nd one (after I exchanged the first) is now pilling on the front and back. I've washed it as the directions indicate and line/air dry it. This is unfortunately as I love the products lightweight warmth qualties.
Not for tall people
It's a great looking top, but it has a few fatal flaws. First the quality of the fleece is very poor for the price. It's very thin. This is something you wear on a early fall day, not in the midst of a Chicago winter. And then there's the size length problem...I am 6'1" and ordered the XXL. The sleeves are just fine, but the top is nowhere close to being long enough in the torso. I don't often wear this out because it shows my undershirt. If you offer XXL, you need to adjust the size in all dimensions -- not just for girth, but length, too.
Stylish but..
PartDavid's review is spot on. Where I live the winters aren't bone cold so this 1/4 zip fleece keeps me warm if I wear a t-shirt underneath. I think it would be ineffective in a very cold climate. I expected it to be as thick as Kuhl's Stovepipe fleece pullover but it's not even close. Despite these negatives, it's a stylish pullover and I have received lots of compliments. Not sure of the durability - of course, only time will tell.
Pills!
I love Kuhl. I have been very happy with pants, jackets, polo shirts, etc. I associate Kuhl with high quality, durability and comfort. I also loved the stitching and look of this quarter zip. But within days it started pulling up. Not just in the back where there is friction from seats but all over the front. Within a few weeks it looked like Al Goldstein’s had been wearing it for years. And to top it off, this fleece attracted dog hair like no other item I have worn in the five years since I got my dog. I was bummed. I loved the fit, the style and the comfort. But it got embarrassing to wear it.
Great look, but poor quality
I boght two of these becase it fits me well and looks very good (I have a slim built). Unfortunately, had to return the black one three times, becasue the two shoulders are not evenly cut. This sweater works like a fuzz duster in the dryer, it needs to be hand washed.
Wears down fast
I have had two Revel sweaters from Kuhl. Each one looks great on the first two wearings, but then the fabric begins to pill and wears out fast. I've never owned a fast-pilling sweater. AVOID.
Fabric pills easily
Overall a nice product but I noticed that after wearing a few times (less than 30 days old), the fabric began to show signs of pilling. Was told by customer service that this was simply a byproduct of wear. I do not care for the pilling look and therefore cannot recommend this product.
Great fleece, sizes run small...
I owned a Kuhl fleece for several years and loved it. When I inadvertently left it in a taxi cab, it was still in great shape. :-( I bought this one as a replacement and so far am liking it as well. It is exceptionally warm and has kept me cozy while working outside in the garden in cold and damp weather. I've already run it through the wash a few times and the fabric and seams are holding up just fine. One consideration for other buyers is that the sizes definitely run small and are quite fitted. I am 5'11” with a 38" chest and had to exchange the medium I first bought for a large. Even the large is quite snug when worn over a flannel shirt and base layer. All things considered, though, it is so far a good fleece for the money.
It pills
Nice fit and feel, but after only a few washes -- even turned inside-out -- it started pilling. Bummer, though not fatal. Even after depilling, they recurred.
