Rated 4 out of 5 by from My go to hiking pants I don't know about other women out there, but the choices for women's convertible pants are so sub par and absurd that I decided to wear men's pants long ago. I love the fabric in these, it's very soft, non irritating yet it dries in a flash. I love that it's a high SPF fabric because I hate goopy sunblock. The cut is generous (on me at least) and non restrictive yet I don't look like a twig in a tent when I have them on. The pockets are perfect. On bare skin or over silk long underwear on cold hiking days, they always feel just right and perform flawlessly. And they slide into my rain pants on wet days without a problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality, good price, good fit Many brands make a lightweight, convertible cargo pant including REI. Being a tall/thin dude, the problem is that that most were way too baggy for my frame (including REI, North Face, Patagonia). I looked like a clown in the REI Sahara pants, for example. Surprisingly, Columbia came through with a more fitted convertible pant. The shorts are on the shorter side (just above knee), which I like. Features & quality are great, too, and the fabric feels nice against the skin. Converting the pants is simple and quick, and the removable belt band is effective and low-profile. I'd recommend to those with a thinner frame or those who like a more fitted pant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hiking pants I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in these pants last year and absolutely love them. They're comfortable, not too baggy, and the shorts are just above the knees where I like them. I thought that the zippers would be annoying, but they didn't bother me a bit. These were the only pants/shorts I wore day in and day out for 6 months, only taking them off for laundry and sleeping. I liked the fact that they dried off quickly after getting drenched in the rain, and they were cool and light during the summer heat. The fabric is tough. They didn't tear or rip, which is surprising considering the rough terrain I went through. The crotch seam split a little near the end of my trip but was quickly repaired with a needle and thread. I hope REI doesn't stop carrying them in the tusk color. Love these pants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome pant, pockets ok Bought these last week for a backpacking trip and they were the perfect do-all pant. Zip off the legs to wade, any splashes dry super fast. Mostly mosquito proof, but they can still bite through if the skin is pressed against them like on knees bending down etc. A bit thinner than I'm used to but these really do dry lightning fast. I was concerned I'd rip a hole sitting and turning on rough granite and moving through thick brush, but they held up with no tears. My only complaint is the tiny single zippered pocket on the leg barely big enough to hold my folded waterproof map sleeve. Would be nice to have at least one more bigger zippered pocket. But for $60 pretty good!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The little extras count After being prompted by REI to write a review, my thought was, "why not?" Worn them a few times and noticed a few "little" things that count. First, the zip off legs are clearly marked "R" and "L" so you don have to guess. In addition, it allows for a better fit. Next is the belt. It may seem a bit odd, but it actually works and is light weight and holds my girth well enough. Next is the style and feel. I have been walking to church on Sunday mornings, minus the legs, then attaching them once I arrived. The pants appear casual without many people guessing they are actually zip offs. Very comfortable in this warm weather. Over all, good. I will let you know if this heads south after three months of use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable stylish pants This is my second pair of Columbia convertible pants. The first pair were my favorite outdoor adventure pants until the fabric tore in the seat. I'm happy to say that the fit is perfect for my build. I'm 6' and 165 lb. The pants are more stylish and comfortable than the my REI convertibles, which are tight in the waist with balloonish legs. However, the material of the Columbia pants is thinner which I assume is why they tore so easily. The other advantage of the REI pants is that they have so many pockets for easy and secure access. That being said the Columbia pants have sufficient storage options for my needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, lightweight pants. Great pair of pants. Glad I got them on sale, I don't think they're worth the full price. A few of the seams have stretched a little... so I'm waiting to see how they hold up and if they'll break. Also, for this price, I would expect ankle zips for easy on/off. I don't want to have to take my boots off to convert to shorts. One thing to note however is that they are little tight around the butt. I am very very skinny (6' 130 lbs) and they feel okay... But I think they might feel a little tight on the average person. Cons aside, these pants are very light, comfortable, and breathe amazingly well. They also dry very quickly (dried within half an hour after a knee deep stream crossing). Plus, they give you SPF protection which I find to be a great added bonus (I'm not a huge fan of sunblock). All in all, great pants but I do find them a bit overpriced... try to get them on sale if possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought two pair, so they must be good These pants serve a dual purpose for me: I work in them every day (I'm a writer), and I wear them to go hiking. I'll also travel in them because they're so comfortable. I much prefer them to blue jeans, because they're lighter, more breathable, and I can convert them to shorts with no effort. I only wish they came in the odd waist sizes, because a 32-inch waist is too tight, and the 34 is a bit roomy. But I'm not complaining.
