Great piece for the money

For the quality of the item and not having to deal with excess cordage due to the stretchy nature of this leash, the price is worth it. I have found that this leash, attached to a lightweight harness or gear loop, will be more secure in retaining the axe in the case of a fall. The wrist loop types, which I have used for years, may have a tendency to get yanked off, whereas this has the option for a more solid anchoring. Once I started getting onto snow and ice 50+ degrees, the risk associated with steeper snow grew, and I wanted to make sure my axe stayed with me. If you are going to be using an axe in the first place, chances are you are on some pretty steep snow; dont skimp on the things you are trusting your safety to. Do it right the first time, get the right gear, and have better chances if you take a fall and drop your axe. As to be expected, this leash fits my BD RP axe, but it will also fit the Grivel series with a bit of effort.

Does what it's supposed to.

Well, it does what it's supposed to. The carabiner style clip hooks on very well to my BD Raven ice axe. It's nice to have an extendable leash, that way I don't constantly have excess slack to deal with it. It's long when I need to be, and short/out of the way most of the time. I usually just clip the other end with a carabiner onto my harness or onto the gear loop on my climbing pack's hip belt. A little pricey for a leash... but hey, it's quality stuff.

Great leash system

Used to use simple water-knotted webbing for both longer and wrist axe-leash systems. This works way better. The biner-clip can go through the spike for ice-tools with the webbing girth hitched to your harness, or flip it and girth-hitch the webbing through the carabiner hole on an axe and clip in to your harness. The bungee chord keep the leash above your knees on snow ascents so you won't trip over it, but also lets you use your tools above your head with ease. Strong enough to rest on, but I wouldn't take a fall on one (or two).

Great Leash!

For those that need/want their hands free, this will be a great addition to your quiver. With the ability to attach to either the head or the pick (depending on the need) you will find it very convenient and comfortable depending on what you want/need. While climbing, you will certainly appreciate the option to stow the piolet and still maintain security.

Exactly what I was looking for

I wanted a stretchy leash for a technical tool, and this was the only single one I could find. When ski mountaineering I often use only one tool (and a whippet in the other hand), so I didn't want the more common double leash. While I haven't used it yet, it seems like it'll do the trick perfectly.

Good for Moutaineering

Love the expandable nature of the leash, allowing me to switch sides with my axe on glacier routes. I do wish the carabiner attachment was a bit bigger, as it's a bit of a pain to detach from the axe.

Kept my ice axe handy and stayed out of my way

I had been using a single runner but noticed it dangled everywhere. Because it recoils, this leash stays out of the way much better. With climbing, less is more.
