Specs

Best Use Camping
Material(s) Copolyester
Dimensions 1.5 x 1.5 inches
BPA Free Yes
Weight 1 ounce
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavy duty It's not ultralight compared to other methods but it's a really really nice shaker. They just took the bottom shaker and the top cover from the GSI Spice Missile though, which is $10. If you would occasionally take a few more spices car camping or backpacking, get the Spice Missile, and when you need only 2 spices, take the bottom shaker with the top screw on cap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design I agree with Kapple46, the lids spit open on my shakers after using them twice. Kapple46 is correct that the lid issue leads to a nice mess in your pack! REI actually resisted to take one of these items back, despite the design defect in the plastic cap. The manufacturer should be using a plastic lid with more resilience. These items have enough salt and pepper for one meal, if you use the contents sparingly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Construction Took this out a few times and on my last trip this past week I opened my GSI tea kettle (a much better piece of gear!) and it was full of salt and pepper. The cap had split. This contains plenty of salt/pepper for me to get through a couple of days of freeze dried meals. It's not ultra light, but it's small and light enough for someone who's moderately weight conscious. Too bad it's made of such shoddy material.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it The top split open within a week of purchase spilling salt. It is also very small. I would recommend purchasing a better quality shaker.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lid breaks easily I bought this product and filled it with salt and pepper. The FIRST time I tried to close the lid, it split (didn't notice) and salt went everywhere in my pack. So I returned it and got the same one again thinking it was a weird fluke. Nope, same issue. With very little pressure, the grey twist-on lid cracked/split again before I even put any spices in it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not very ultralight, but does its job I bought this several years ago thinking that it would be a nice addition to my inventory of backpacking equipment and for the most part, I wasn't wrong. It's definitely not ultralight but it can be extremely durable... Except for the first one that I bought. The top edge of the cap cracked and was pouring salt into my cook pot every time I took a step down the trail. But luckily I bought it from REI and they were more than happy to help me replace it. After that my experience with this product has been for the most part, very enjoyable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from NOT Ultralight This is a very sturdy, airtight product. The perforated screen is great for dispensing salt or pepper. However, it is by no means ultralight. You'd do far better putting your spices into plastic baggies. Disappointed that it's being advertised this way. Also, and not a big deal, you'll need a cotton swab or pipe cleaner to clean the chambers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I have been using this salt/pepper shaker in my lunch box for a couple of years now. Increasingly I have to pull the perforated lid out of the outer lid either using a fork or tweezers in order to use the shaker. This time the perforated lid is stuck so tightly that it will not come out at all. I am off to REI to find a different style.

Does this screw on to the Spice Missle?

Asked by: acanary
The Ultralight Salt & Pepper Shaker can screw onto the middle sections of the Spice Missle, but it would be redundant since the spice missle already comes with a dual chamber salt and pepper shaker as it's base. If you lost the base this is a compatible replacement.
