MSR  Universal Fuel Canister Stand

I bought this to make my Soto OD-1R stove more stable and it did the job very well. The stand grips the canister by the small lip at the base of the canister so well that there is no wriggle at all. The spring loaded black part holds it solidly.

I have a Pocket Rocket that I use for short trips and before buying the MSR canister stand I scalded myself twice tipping over the top-heavy stove+pot filled with boiling water. I was about to give up on the PR when I found this in an REI store. Works fine, esp. when you have to dig a little to level your stove - you can't do that very effectively with the canister alone. BTW, the plastic model for the other brand stove will not fit MSR-size canisters. Attempts to force a plastic stand to fit an MSR canister will break the stand.

I'd never had any issues with canister stoves (knock on wood), but would get nervous leaving things unattended even for a few seconds. So when I saw this product, it was one of those "duh" moments and I immediately grabbed one. It fits the small MSR canister as well as the bigger Coleman and JetBoil canisters. It folds up nicely, takes up minimal space, and is light. The only possible concern is the spring on the adjustable black piece going. Other than that, it's a great little addition to a canister stove setup.

I tried this little guy out on two different isopro fuel canisters. Fit both the 4 and 8 ounce canisters well. This stand give my cooking system some needed stability. It's light, sturdy and folds down small. I use an MSR Pocketrocket with a 1-liter pot on most of my trips. With the money.

4oz gas cans have a very small base. I’ve tried the orange plastic stabilizers in the past, but had tabs break off no matter how careful I’ve been. Adding a cook pot with 16oz of water makes a very top-heavy situation. This MSR stabilizer is so convenient. It’s so light that even ultralighters couldn’t possibly notice it’s in their pack. The best feature is the spring-loaded clamp. I have used 4oz and 8oz cannisters with no issues. My cook setup has never even wobbled with this stabilizer. As long as you don’t lose it, you should be able to use this product for life. It’s just a little convenience item that goes a long way.

instantly doubles the base diameter size of a typical backpacking stoves base (the gas can), vastly increasing stability. Spring loaded can latch keeps the can well attached to the stand. Has lots of notches which keep stand from moving on rocks. Really great and cheap investment that will make tipped stoves and wobbly bases a thing of the past. And it folds small enough to go in the bag with the stove. No complaints. 100% satisfaction in 4 uses so far.

For me, a canister stand is a necessity because the overall height with a stove and a pot is far too top heavy for the narrow base of any fuel canister. A strong gust of wind is much less likely to knock it over with the expanded footprint which the stand provides. The sturdy MSR universal served me very well for a decade, then I misplaced it. I considered some of the lighter cheaper products now available, but too many reviewers complained of legs snapping off. Sorry, no. I went with something I know I can depend on. After my trip I found the original I had misplaced, and gave it to a grateful friend.

Took this on it's first trip last week (1 week on the A.T). My concern with canister stoves is the lack of stability on uneven surfaces. This little device fits large or small canisters and makes them much more stable, even when using a pot large enough to feed 3 or 4 backpackers. Weighs only about an ounce and worth it for safety and to avoid spilling dinner.

I was looking for a canister stabilizer for my Snowpeak Gigapower stove, and found that this metal base is secure and stable with MSR and Snowpeak fuel canisters (8 oz and 4 oz sizes). I had some tipping incidents prior to getting this stand with heavier larger pots, but none after (with 3 continuous solid weeks of backpacking use). Highly recommended.

These do their job well. In a few, rockier situations I have found that it is easier to balance the stove without these legs but if you have a nice flat surface these will make your stove much more stable.
