This stove is really awesome. I had an MSR Pocket Rocket before this, and the Jetboil Sol is way better (although more expensive). It is the fastest ramen maker in the world. What I like most is its efficiency (12 L of water boiled per 100g fuel). The small can of gas lasts a really long time. This is probably due to the awesome design, and use of the flux ring. I also love that it comes with the pot adapter, so if I want to I can use other pots with it as well. And the fact that it all packs up into one small container is priceless. The only reason not to buy this is if you need to make food for more than two people. Then you need something bigger. But for one or two people it's perfect!
The Jetboil is the fastest cooking setup I have used. It packs up to a reasonable size, the cozy keeps your food warm and your hands unburned. It weighs very little and is super efficient. And to those who say it doesnt simmer, you just aren't doing it right. I simmer with mine no problem. I picked this up on the word of my friend who hiked the entire App. Trail with one, and he was spot on. I cannot begin to describe how great of a product it is. I have used it daily for 2 weeks and still have 2/3 can of fuel left. As far as safety, after researching many stoves, the Jetboil Sol had the lowest Carbon Monoxide at full blast and at simmer. Two big thumbs up!!
Yes, I have had many other cook stoves, and I have always wanted a Jetboil. I finally splurged and but the SOL, I have to say it lives up to the hype. The handle has been upgraded and the lid is great, mine has never fallen off inside my pack or duffle like others have stated. This beast boils water extremely fast and efficiently. It has been a pleasure to have so far. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. Anyone looking for a cook stove, look no further than this. Get this one you will not be disappointed!
Simple and complete. That's all there is to it. I love that it all fits inside the pot. The legs unfold and make this thing very stable. It's fairly lightweight and durable. Awesome stove for backpacking!
Used this stove on our Whitney trip and it can sure heat up some water. The largest amount I needed to boil at one time was 2 cups and it was boiling in well under one minutes time. Elevation was around 12,000 ft. and had no problem lighting gas with a lighter. The stove's igniter only worked twice after several button pushes. Just saved myself the hassel and used a lighter after that. The pot can be difficult to detatch from the burner if you lock it on. I just set the pot down on the burner and didn't turn it. That worked fine. Didn't burn my hands lifting the pot to pour, but if it is locked on the burner it can be hot gripping it to wrestle it off. I didn't use the little stand that attaches to the gas cannisters, It was very stable using the gas cannister as a base. As long as you aren't relying on the igniter to light this thing, It is light, packs great and works really good.
This stove boiled 3 cups of water for me in 45 seconds! I haven't had a lot of stoves, but I know that is extrordinary! It was in 10 degree weather, with windy conditions, too. Very light, compact and durable. Even the fuel cannister fits into the cup! I read in backpacker magazine recently that this stove is rated #1, and for good reason. It also practically starts itself with the ignition.
I purchased the Jetboil because I have heard so many great reviews from fellow backpackers. I was impressed on how compact the overall system was and how quickly I was able to boil water in high altitude locations. I consider myself a fairly gentle with expensive backpacking gear but the Jetboil is IMO junk. after the first use the lid shrunk and will no longer fully snap on, the bottom plastic cup cracked on a 4 day trip, the plastic ring around the burner melted on one side. The only good use it to boil water, if you try to actually cook anything it will just boil over and create a mess. There is no control on the burner, it's either on or off.
Keeping this short and simple, Excellent performance out of the Jetboil SOL aluminum. If boiling water is your primary goal, cooking backpacking meals, making coffee, hot chocolate etc, the SOL is fantastic. Very powerful, "don't leave unattended" powerful, quick and easy to set up / take down. All components pack up nicely into the cup itself and stows in pack easily. For boiling water, I am not sure what else you could want or need. Nitpicking, I wish REI had stocked the titanium version IN store, I understand that one is only available online. Either way the SOL is about perfect and a solid performer for all of my cooking needs in the field.
I did not own the older model, so this is my first Jetboil. I found it much faster and easier to use than my conventional butane stove. This is an awesome stove. I have used it in the snow over several days, cooking a variety of meals, not just melting snow for hot water. It was easy to clean after each meal. One complaint is that the strainer lid does not stay put and is impossible to hold in place due to hot steam rising, thus dumping my dinner out into the snow. The handle is not very functional, but understand it's design for weight and compactness. It fit into my bear canister very nicely with all my food. Overall, this is an awesome stove.
I purchased this stove a couple weeks back to join on the jetboil craze... And well I am really happy with my purchase, I took it on a weekend excursion on the north shore of minnesota. I found it takes a bit more time than the 2 minutes to boil water in really cold conditions, and much longer when doing snow melt.(obviously) I left the stove outside over night and it got an inch of heavy snow poured onto it from mother nature, I had two different stoves I brought with, and with just shaking the snow off the stove the jetboil lite up with just the igniter.(The pot stabilizer was on it making the element open to the environment) Overall I am very pleased with the performance of this stove, plus the fact that everything can be contained within the cup and doesn't rattle is huge for me!
