Proof is in the JUICE!

I bought several 2oz bottles for the entire family for our trip to South Africa. We did a week on safari in the country's malaria region so I didn't want to play around. Long story short, we survived our trip without a single insect bite amongst the 4 of us! Thru long game drives, outdoor meals & even swimming...Jungle Juice provided the ultimate protection. And since the bottle size is small, we were able to pack it in our carry-on luggage & apply the second our plane touched ground in Kruger. The only downside is the potential health risk associated with DEET. Keeping this in mind we used Jungle Juice on our generously on our clothes, a little less on our skin...very effective.

It works

It works when the others don't. I am healthy about what I apply to my skin, but I make exceptions with bug spray because the non-DEET sprays just don't work. I use this in the Northwest during mosquito season and it works pretty well. I have also used this in New Zealand to ward off the sandflies. Spray bottle is easier to apply but its a little more bulky and heavier compared to the normal bottle. I do prefer to apply it to my clothing instead of my skin (NOTE: Be careful about the material you apply it to - read the bottle for warnings). I like to spray it on my hat rather than my face, etc.

This stuff is amazing!

Hiked through Mosquito Pass and we were being swarmed by mosquitoes. As soon as we put this on, all of the mosquitoes were gone. I am usually feasted on by bugs; they absolutely love me, but they wanted nothing to do with me while I was wearing this. Pros: mosquitoes avoided us like the plague, it lasted for hours, and a little goes a long way. Cons: It has a bit of a funky smell, leaves a greasy feeling on the skin, and it tastes horrible if you get it in your mouth on accident. I will not go on a backpacking trip without this now. No other product works anywhere near as good as this one.

Highly recommend

Used the product backpacking in Sierra mtns. Applying a small amount proved to be effective and long lasting. My only quibble is that, at some point during our trip, the fine mist spray turned into more of a single-stream squirt. This could have been due to altitude, as it seemed to correct itself after we descended to lower altitudes. Users should be aware that DEET can destroy certain materials (e.g. plastics), so keep it away from sunglasses, watches, bear canisters, etc.

Dissolves bike helmets

This stuff works but when my head was surrounded by a cloud of flies I sprayed it all over my head and bike helmet. It got rid of the flies but My expensive bike jacket had black sticky stuff on the collar that looked like chain oil. It turned out the DEET was dissolving the styrofoam stuff of my helmet into a black sticky goo. So be aware

Easy and effective

I bought a bottle of this to go on a 3-day backpacking trip with two other people. We camped near a small lake, so bugs (especially mosquitoes) were pretty heavy. While I did return home with my fair share of bites, the spray was more than enough to keep most away. That said, you have to be comfortable with various aspects of DEET to use this. Things like the greasy texture, smell, and warnings against using it on synthetic fabrics may scare some off. However, if that does not bother you, this product does the job quite nicely.

The best of three I tried from REI

I've found this spray to be very effective, much more so than two other repellents I also purchased from REI. The spray applicator is quite handy -- in that it keeps the juice off your hands. I only knocked one star off its score since it doesn't really dry on your skin, but it remains a bit greasy. Small tradeoff, though -- I'd rather be bug free and a little tacky, than get chewed up over miles of trail. Use this stuff, and the bugs will NOT be bugging you.

Powerful

I generally use this product on backpacking trips but it is very useful anywhere there are harmful bugs. Just spray on a general area and rub it in. Like they say, a little goes a long way so use it sparingly. 3 people got by on one bottle for a week up in the High Sierras where there are a bugillion hawk sized mosquitoes. Its amazing, the mosquitoes literally die on contact. Bottle comes with a screw top that we found to come in handy. When this was the only bottle of DEET and it was getting low we unscrewed the top and poured about a 1/3 to 1/2 dose of water and the product still performed extremely well. Only complaint is I wish it would last a little longer. I find myself having to reapply every 2-3 hours. Also, Im not sure how safe this product is but I dont know anyone who has had a bad reaction.

Can't say enough good stuff!

I used this on two outings this summer (along with Sawyer's permethrin spray) and was amazed at how effective they were! The first trip out was a weekend in a salt marsh: while everybody else was getting eaten alive I was trying not to laugh. Not. One. Bite. The second was a backpacking trip to a river campsite, my girlfriend's first trip out into the woods. Same thing-- if it weren't for others complaints about the mosquitoes I would have thought there weren't any around. My gf's comments say it all: "Who makes this stuff? Can we buy stock in them or something?"

Careful the bottle can leak

The spray works well to keep ticks and mosquitos away. But you should put it into it's own ziplock bag. I placed it in with my general toiletries bag and it leaked a bit on to the other items in the bag in my pack.
