Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT LIKE THE ORIGINAL BILLY GOAT! These are the "new" version, but with serious flaws. I still wear 5 pairs of the originals, and I backordered these as replacements. They have been returned because they have an uneven seam in the crotch that guarantees to make one leg shorter than the other by 3/4 inch. I have received 4 of these from 2 different retailers, so these are not "manufacturing defects" but rather they are "design flaws". I contacted the manufacturer directly but they are not interested in constructive design/manufacturing comments over which they claim to "have no control". Additionally, the size received is the same as what I already own, but the new ones are MUCH smaller so I would have returned them anyway. What a disappointment this whole experience has been, not to mention that the price is much higher now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The new Billy Goat Shorts I recently (2016) bought a pair of a Royal Robbins Billy Goat Shorts. I've been buying these shorts for over 20 years and within the last few years noticed that the fit and materials had changed and not for the better. Apparently Royal Robbins responded to the negative reviews from their customers as these new shorts fit like the old classics and seem to be much better quality. Hats off to RR for going back to the classic style and fit and I'll definitely be picking up a few more pairs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy. Size off. Material poor quality. I have worn Billy Goat shorts for about 15 years and still have several pair of older models. They were/are fantastic! These new model shorts are nothing like the older models. The sizes are too small and the material is very flimsy and thin compared to the original. And the price is exorbitant for this poor quality product. I returned the newer ones that I ordered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good old-fashioned shorts If you're sick of "shorts" that hang down at or even below your knees, then buy these shorts. The 5" inseam is about as "short" as you're going to get these days, and much much shorter than most shorts you'll find at retail (including the local REI store, where most of the shorts had 8" or 10" or even 12" inseams). Freedom of movement and freedom from chafing, for the win.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Props to RR for bringing these back, but Props to RR for listening to the customers and bringing these back, however, in their absence I finally broke down and bought a few pairs of Patagonia Stand Ups, which I like much better and I don't know if I'll be going back to these shorts. As they say, you snooze you lose. If RR comes out with more colors I'll probably snag a pair or two, though. Overall, good shorts, but I've found some I like better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent design and quality Got a pair at REI, and have been wearing them half the summer. These are probably the very best quality all-around shorts I've ever purchased. If only they had a little more leg flare (for full freedom when rock climbing) and were an inch or so shorter (for the same reason), they'd be perfect. As another reviewer noted, it's hard to find a good hiking and climbing short, because most companies are making them so long that they bind at the knee. Way to go, Royal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, solid, comfortable shorts With the redesign of other shorts moving towards Toreador/Basketball styles, it is a pleasure to find a short that allows movement, comfort, durability and utility. In especially hot weather, these shorts are perfect for comfort. I work in them, camp and walk everywhere and they suit my needs perfectly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Quality I seem to go back to REI and buy one or two pair every year and have some that are approaching 10 years old. These are traditional cotton shorts that are not the long baggy getto costumes sold at malls. They are comfortable and the pockets, including back pockets work properly. Thank you REI and Royal Robbins!
