Renewed my favorite rain jacket after 7 years
I used this in 2019 on a 2012 Mountain Hardwear QDry Elite jacket that I had never washed or re waterproofed before. It was wetting out, and I used this product according to the instructions and dried with low heat before traveling to Seattle for a week, where it rained steadily. It was like the jacket was almost new again. Cost is a little bit steep, but works pretty well. Only odd thing is the dosage instructions have you use half the bottle of wash but the whole bottle of waterproofing. So now I have an odd half a bottle of wash sitting around.
Ruined my jacket
Do not use. This product ruined my 20 year old North Face jacket. Used as directed, left tiny what flakes all over my jacket, inside and out.
Does what it's supposed to do....
I purchased this item to refresh the waterproofing on a shell jacket and a recently purchased hybrid synthetic down jacket. This product worked perfectly and as advertised. I did have to wash the shell jacket twice in the DWR treatment in order to get the level of waterproofing that I desired. To be fair, the jacket had not been washed for some time so with frequent washes I'm sure that a single wash would be sufficient. After the wash I was able to field test the shell and synthetic down jackets in the rain and snow with no issues to report. This is a great product and I would recommend it to others. I will also try ReviveX in the future as a point of comparison.
WARNING: IT COULD RUIN YOUR JACKETS
I read the instruction carefully before using the product. Based on the instruction, I first wash my two Arc'teryx GORE-TEX PRO jackets with the TECH WASH, followed by using TX.DIRECT. Then put them into dryer and set the dryer accordingly. However, after taking them out of the dryer, I immediately noticed there are black spot stain on the jackets everywhere. The two jackets are completely ruined. Then I tried to rewash them but nothing could remove those stains. They are kind of sipped into the fabric. I tried to contact NIKWAX but it's been one week and I didn't get any response. I also went to REI store, and the staff suggested me to contact Arc'Teryx. Even Arc'Teryx doesn't have any good advice. They suggested me to use stain remover.
Renews DWR as promised
After heavy usage, my Marmot Minimalist jacket was no longer repelling water. Instead of beading up and rolling off, the water was soaking into the exterior fabric. Cleaning and heating it didn't help refresh the DWR, so I tried the Tech Wash + TX.Direct Wash-In combo. After getting the wash-in treatment, my jacket's DWR was like new again. The one downside is that either or both of these products initially left a fairly strong glue-like chemical smell on my jacket. I mainly noticed the smell when wearing the jacket. It wasn't strong enough to notice from farther away. It faded away over the next couple days that I was wearing the jacket and isn't an issue anymore.
Its like CPR for hardshells!
How many of you find your goretex or other technical shells waterproofness starts to fade after extended use? Well here's the solution! After cleaning my shells with tech wash and re-waterproofing with tx direct, my shells are back to that nice water beading quality that they had when new! Super stoked on how well this product works. Thanks for keeping me dry on all my adventures!
Should have left my jacket alone
Readying for a trip, I sprayed my Gore-Tex Marmot Jacket (purchased from REI 6 years ago; minimal use) in the shower and noticed a small amount of water seeping in at the neck seam & zipper area at the neck (when zipped up). The rest of the jacket still showed great water beading with runoff but figured I'd fix the neck area as would not be an ideal spot to get wet during travel. Washing the one jacket only (nothing else in the load), I followed directions for the Tech Wash, then TX.Direct Wash-In. I wish I would have taken a before picture as this was SO disappointing...The neck seem looks good and the zipper area up to improved but soaks in a bit. HOWEVER, the pockets and midline zipper areas on lower 1/2 of jacket are totally retaining water now. I don't know if i need to reapply the TX.Direct Wash-In again or what, but used the whole bottle as is what instructions say if using in top loader. (Option to add photo won't let me attach). Not sure if this can be remedied yet or if I have to find a new jacket...
Very disappointed
I used the Nikwax combo wash / retreat kit to hopefully revive an REI Goretex rain jacket that had lost its water repellency. Wash seemed to work fine and had no issues there. Followed the directions to the letter on both the wash and the TX Direct treatment. Thought everything was fine until I wore the jacket in a light rainstorm in Yellowstone. After about an hour of being in and out of the rain I noticed that my shoulders were wet on the inside as were other areas. There was next to zero beading of water on the jacket and I was wet! Do not recommend this product at all. Perhaps I got a bad batch but am very displeased.
Old rain jacket feels like brand new
Awesome stuff!! I watched the video then washed our rain gear using the two step process. We just had our first big rain storm of the season yesterday and I walked the dogs in my rain jacket. This is now the most waterproof my jacket has been in years. The water is now rolling right off compared to last spring it seemed to soak through. I read a recent review that was saying that Tech Wash should come in a smaller bottle, but after doing research, it seems that you only need to use the TX.Direct every 3-4 washes, so that is why they give you more Tech Wash than TX.Direct...not sure why it's so hard for some people to figure out.
Dirt Off, Wax On
Had a gortex + denier item that needed cleaning and reconditioning, These worked wonders on it - while the cleaning is not as thorough as i desired - the garment came out the other side of 2 cycles looking cleaner - and after the washin WaterProofing it came out looking dry and shedding lots of the remaining water, a quick pass through the dryer to bond the washin to the fabric and the motorcycle suit was water repellent as new. Follow directions - wash on permanent-press, with extra rinse cycles on the wash - works great in a front loader (3x loads in each bottle for HE front loaders) Gortex seam tape survived with no special prep Item was a desired purchase - made in store on a whim - was a great choice
