Well Worth It

This head net saved the day on my last camping trip. As soon as pulled into my campsite and got off my bike, the mosquitoes attacked! I pulled out a bottle of DEET and sprayed it all over, but that didn't stop the mosquitoes from swarming. In spite of the bug spray, they were biting my lips, going in my nose, and buzzing around my ears and neck. Only the head net kept them at bay and allowed me to enjoy life outside my tent. Only drawback--you need to use a hat. I had forgotten to pack one, so I had to use my bicycle helmet--it worked great but was a bit hot. I now consider this little piece of equipment a vital part of my gear and I'll be packing it the rest of the summer.

Mosquitoes - yes; cedar gnats - no.

This head net fits over my fairly wide-brimmed hat and then it just brushes my shoulders. Without a hat with a brim the fabric would lay right on your skin and the bugs would just bite right through it! It is effective against mosquitoes but I bought it to keep the cedar gnats away which can actually fit through the mesh unfortunately. It would be nice if REI could provide some measurement of mesh density in the product specs. The good news is that a coarser mesh allows more of the breeze through (as well as the gnats!).

Saved our faces on Isle Royale

I read some blogs saying that head nets were great for Isle Royale, and this was the one to have. I had no idea how helpful this little guy would be! With a stuff sack to clip on the front of your pack, we could pull it out whenever we heard the buzz. I left mine draped over my hat for most of my eight days on the island, yanking it down as needed. I just wish it was white because it does retain a bit of heat. Too bad it isn't made of repellant netting! I highly recommend if you are hiking buggy areas.

Awesome

One may ask how much can one really say about a head net. The answer is, not a whole lot. After a Southern California summer morning where I spent 15 minutes packing my backpack while being relentlessly swarmed by bugs and hitting myself every 2 seconds, I realized this was a product that I needed. It's absolutely tiny, weighs basically nothing, will result in everyone in your group making fun of you, and does not (in my experience) let anything through. In my opinion this is a must have item for anyone camping in places with bugs. It makes those 30 minutes around sunset and sunrise so much better. Note, you do need to wear a hat or bike helmet with this in order for it to work correctly.

Mosquitos be gone!

This thing saved my life in the Boundary Waters three years ago! The mosquitoes up there are as big as birds when the sun goes down! But seriously, this is a great purchase. The drawstring is great and its nice that it comes with its own stuff sack. Although I think the stuff sack could even be made a little smaller. It has a little bit of a smell, almost like insect repellent, but its not bad. There is practically no weight to this thing which gives it a permanent spot on my camping trips!I bought this three years ago so I really don't remember if it was the [$] or the [$] version...

Well worth the price & fully functional

This is almost a required item if gardening, camping, hiking late into afternoon and evening to avoid mosquito and other hungry bug bites. I'd purchased to go over my 3-4" wide brim straw hat so I can work outside late into the evening. The S2S hat net w/ bug repellant worked perfectly and no hungry insects even attempts to come close. The only drawback is the bottom shifts positions and sometimes the seam gets into line of sight. The bottom could also be longer for wider hats as well. But I would definitely buy another for my other hiking hat and great price.

A Superior Bug Ner

I used theSea to Summit Head Net as the trail at Poinsett State Park where the deer flies and the mosquitos plague me constantly on an 8 mile hike. With the head Nate in place I breezed through the trail without swatting one time. There are more trails nearby I can use it.It comes in a small sack that pulls up to a ball the size a bit bigger than a golf ball and the net is extremely lightweight and easy to use. It’s recommended and it’s easier if you put on a circular cloth cap so it will fit properly on you head where there it will be no gaps.Would not use a ball cap.The price is only about 12 dollars.I won’t go to a trail without it.

Lifesaver!

I did a two day solo in Southern Yosemite, last July. Nine miles straight of Mosquito Hell. I put the net on over my cap and life was tolerable. Seriously, I would have been forced to turn around with out it. I sprayed 100% Deet everywhere and melted my sunglasses and my watch, but not my head net. Snagged it in the bushes and not a pile or a pull. Light, tiny, durable, Deet proof and indespensible when needed. That buzzing noise was ringing in my ears for days...

It saved our Backpacking trip!

My wife and I backpacked part of the North Country trail in Minnesota over the July 4th weekend. We ran into hordes of deer flies and mosquitos only a few yards into the start of the trail. We had used 100% Deet spray even on our face and neck areas but the only salvation of not going crazy from the swarms or going back home was to use the head nets. They were the salvation of our trip. They worked great, with no problems. After using them for the three days my wife said we would always carry them just in case we ever run into bugs like that out on the trail again. The nets did not affect our sight and were really not that hot to wear. Yes you do need a wide brimmed hat to keep the netting away from your face, but other than that it offered great protection at an affordable price. Plus they are very lightweight to carry.

Does the Job!

This net is a wonderful protection from biting - and pesky - insects. I walk my dog between 3 and 6 miles a day in wooded terrain along a creek...BUG CENTRAL. It's amusing to watch a mosquito right in front of my face buzzing around trying to find a way in. No way in. I recommend the black because there is no possibility of distortion from glare.
