Great vestibule
I have been wanting a raincover for my hobitat for sometime. Got this and used it on the coast of Washington State. It is a bit difficult to set up solo (as is the tent). But we were car camping so the whole family pitched in and it was very easy. There is a perfect gap around the bottom of the vestibule for ventilation and condensation control. Even with it all buttoned up we experienced minimal condensation. More importantly it was on the rain fly instead of the inside of the coated tent fabric. It is well designed sturdy and quiet in a strong wind.
Good idea, not so great in reality
Great idea, at first, for an entryway/protection for your gear. but, with a [$], we found that it wasn't a great value. it was difficult to get the vestibule to reach the ground level, so there was a gap at the bottom...not a good thing for weather protection. additionally, it didn't add much space for gear.we love the Hobitat and will be using it for years to come, but will be returning the vestibule b/c of the lack of value & functionality.
Extremely Satisfied
I like it so much I bought TWO of them. That's right... one for the front and one for the back. Adds greater stability and weatherproofing to the Hobitat 4. IMHO: the back of the tent NEEDS it. Excellent design and easy to set up after you've done it once. I also agree with lawman178's comment - "There is a perfect gap around the bottom of the vestibule for ventilation and condensation control."
Not really worth it for me. Poor fit!
Was very difficult to set up. I ended up using several bungee cords to get the vestibule to even attach. The instructions are worthless. Vestibule really isn't large enough, it makes getting in and out of this tent a duck and almost crawl affair. I would rather put up my backpacking tent for storage than use this item. I will be taking it back this week.
Great add-on
My husband and I recently got a new tent set up after we got married, so we bought the Hobitat 4. Having a dog, we figured this vestibule would be a great way to provide a space for us to dry the pooch off in wet weather and get the dog cleaned up before actually having to step inside the tent. The vestibule serves it's purpose well. Not only that, but we were able to store some of our stuff out there (i.e. dirty shoes, etc.). The first time we used it we actually got to the campsite later than planned and had to set up after dark. We were able to get the vestibule set up in less the five minutes with only a lantern to provide illumination. It's not as difficult to set up as some previous reviewers suggested. I can see how the instructions were a bit confusing, but my recommendation would be to read through them first before setting up the vestibule. I mean, it's only about 8 lines of instruction so it won't take that long, and it should help clear up any confusion/difficulty other campers shared in their experience. As mentioned by other reviewers, there is a gap at the bottom of the vestibule. I agree that it's is great for air flow/ventilation. There isn't a floor to the vestibule (for some reason I thought there was) and the footprint doesn't extend beyond the base of the tent, so we just set up an additional tarp outside to minimize the dirt we tracked in. The vestibule is a nice addition the tent. We were able to leave the screen door of the tent open and close off the vestibule at night when we slept, which made the tent seem way larger than it already is. Overall, we love the vestibule. We're not sure if it's worth [$] (we used our dividend and got it half off), but it's come in handy when getting the dog dry and we know it will be great when we eventually have kids and need a space to dry them off/clean them up before having them jump into the tent for the night.
