Traded to get these! Glad I did!
I went with a brand that were $30 and after reading the reviews I decided to return them and bought these! Man was I glad! I hiked Mt. Mitchell in Asheville, NC and towards the top was nothing, but snow and ice. They never once did they slip off my boot nor did they fall off (true to size to your boot). I was amazed how well they held up. My friend bought the ones I did before getting these and he hiked with me... needless to say, one of them slipped off his foot and was lost on the trail, thank goodness I returned those and got these!
Amazing: worth every $ and every gram
I took these on the Timberline Trail around Mt. Hood, and after a day of crossing scree and meadows I was sure it was a mistake. But then we hit long snowfield crossings, often with a hair-raising, endless slide down the mountain if one were to slip. The Microspikes were incredible: easily pulled on and off with one hand (didn't even take off my pack), and rock-solid on soft and hard-packed snow. If you might encounter snowy trails, these are worth the cost and the weight. They increased our pace, kept us safe, and worked flawlessly. Well done Kahtoola.
Im rubber and you're glue...
I used these while hiking a section of the AT this winter. Initially, I tired the Yak Trax, but when the trail conditions deteriorated beyond the light use of the Yak Trax, I was happy that I brought these in addition. They are lightweight and easy to slip on over your hiking boots. The added traction they provided was priceless. They eliminated the slippery aspect from the hard pack and icy sections of the travel and allowed the hike to continue with ease. They are not a substitute or replacement for snowshoes, but they are a Godsend for the icy, packed powder and mixed trail conditions. Plus, they are great quality and American made!
Essential Winter Gear!!
I am thrilled to see that REI is carrying these, I consider these essential winter, spring and late fall gear. Everyone I hike with either has them or I recommend they get them. Everyone I know that has tried them went out and bought a pair. They go on quickly and stay on all day long. They provide excellent traction on ice and hard snow without all the fuss of crampons. If I am out in hiking in snow/ice I will either have these on or I will have on snowshoes. Most hikes in the White Mountains you can get away with these and not even need to carry crampons. I found these better than ANY other traction device on the market. You won't regret this purchase.
A serious piece of hiking gear!
My fiancee and I tackled the Willey range in NH over the weekend, and due to the proximity to Mt. Washington, winter conditions were present on the mountains. We decided to go with the Microspikes over the others; they were well constructed, lightweight, and fit on easily over our hiking boots, which made putting them on when needed, very easy. The trail was steep and icy on the descent and the Microspikes gave us the confidence in our footing that we needed in order to safely navigate the trail. A great investment in a great product!
Amazing traction!
Amazing! really cant say more, but I will. I wear a 10.5 Garmont Momentum winter boot and use the medium size spikes. While they are snug fitting, they are a little hard to get on, not nearly as easy as they show in the product video. I have used them twice now. The second time on a decent with a packed, iced up route. I did not even hesitate walking on the ice. I even found the areas of the route that had the ice, versus the mud and wet spots. The only con is they seem overpriced. With that said, I would buy them again.
Worth every ounce and every dollar
Not that this product needs anymore outstanding reviews, but these spikes are game changers. If you are hiking in mountains in spring or a transition season you would be foolish not to bring these along. Sure you can make it up snow covered ice-luge style trails without these, but why? Strap a pair of these on to some waterproof shoes w/ Gaiters and don't ever let the weather keep you inside. On another note, these also work great on rock. They hold me going downward up to 60 degrees on flat rock. Extremely durable. If you are considering yaktrax; don't. I returned three pairs of destroyed yaktrax runners before i realized that Microspikes are the way to go if you're dealing with harsh terrain.
WOW, Incredible icy trail traction
I did a lot of research and asked to get these as a Christmas gift. They were everything I read about… Perfect for any icy snowy trail… The local ridge trails can get very icy where the sun hits the snow at the bottom, and can be frustrating even with the best alpine boots without traction devices. These make all the difference in the world. Hiking up bulletproof blue ice these stuck right in and every step was with confidence that the traction will be there! Any person that hikes in winter should really look at these.
Absolute must have for hiking with ice
These are a must have for anyone that hikes when conditions are icy. I hiked the same 5k footer, 10 mile hike, back to back weekends. The first weekend I didnt have the MicroSpikes but saw everyone on the trail wearing them. Needless to say the hike was difficult due to icy conditions but incredible none the less. Picked up a pair of MicroSpikes for following weekend's repeat hike and was blown away at the difference. Taking the MicroSpikes on and off is effortless, each step is secure and didnt slip once, walking on straight rock I thought would be difficult but had no problem there either. Best move I made was buying these for my second hike, I feel safe and made going down hill especially far less painful on muscles and joints as I wasnt focused on every single step I made.
Great light weight traction system.
Bought these for a last minute hike on the Ice House Canyon trail up to the Baldy saddle about three weeks ago. We had heard there was snow at the higher elevations and figured there would be some icy portions of the the trail so I wanted to be prepared. The trail got pretty icy in a hurry so we stopped and I slipped the spikes on over my Merrell trail runners and I was back to mountain goat status. These spikes go on quick and easy and other than the reassuring crunch as I took each step I hardly knew they were there. Great for what they are made for!
