effective fuel
These are comparable to Clif Blocks, yet are much better! Easier to eat than energy bars, and not as messy as gels. Delicious flavors are sweetened with Natural Honey and easy to swallow for most athletic endeavors (as long as you are not anaerobic). My favorites are Fruit Smoothie and Pomegranate. I open a package of these and loosely place them in a top tube mounted feed bag. As I ride, I reach in and gobble them up as needed (with water). For longer rides over 4 hours, I generally need to eat energy bars as well, but these are great for everything shorter than that.
Saved my life!
I was travelling in Africa recently and got really sick from tainted food. I was way up in the mountains at this time, and had to hike down 32 kilometers to the nearest town to get medical help. I was so sick throwing up, I couldn't even keep water down. Then I remembered I had a packet of Honey Stinger Chews (pomegranate). Slowly chewed on one and it stayed down! I truly believe the Honey Stinger Chews saved my life, giving me enough electrolytes to sustain me until I got help.
A #1 flavor
This was taken on a multi-day backpacking excursion in the Yosemite high country. I purchased the Cherry flavor, and found it to have one of the most marvelous aromas, and tastes! These are very soft in texture, and easy to chew. They go down easily without water, unlike the Clif Shot Bloks, which are harder, and in need of water to wash them down. I'll definitely buy the Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews for my subsequent hikes...I won't be buying the Clif Shot Bloks in the future. If you haven't tried these yet, you won't regret a future purchase for your next hike...A-1, for sure.
High energy boot!
When I first saw this product, I thought the chews come in squares like the texture of starburst candy, but it was gellies like soft kind. I got the Fruit Smoothies and am very happy with it since it tastes just like Fruit Punch! One of my favorite flavors. I want to try the orange next will be getting more. I ate it on an empty stomach after a nap to wake me up, and ate only one piece and felt energy boost right away ate another piece and it gave me more energy, that's all I needed to wake up and do some crafting projects. There's a good amount in each bag, but on the high end side for price, but they work! I don't eat them daily-to me, this is kind of medicine. An energy boosting medicine.
Tastes great
I hiked the BFT in PA last year, it was hot, there where flies all day, it was a gruel fest. My buddy came in on day two of four. I just did not feel like cooking. I lived on my trail mix, and humped out my freeze dried food. On a long up hump, my friend handed me a pack of Honey Stingers, cherry blossom. Man, I loved the texture, the flavor, and I felt a boost. I am going to buy a case this year and try to substitute it for meals by eating stingers all day, and other non coooking foods. ( at least lunches.) I tried a few other brands without success. Stingers have the texture and the taste. Love ya Stinger.
Good flavor, good mouth feel.
Good consistency. Packaging is very difficult to use while riding - chews stick a little to the inside of the package, so you kind of need two hands to get 'em out to eat 'em. Good food for walking sports, took a couple bags hiking with the kids this weekend. They liked the flavor (orange), and I liked giving them these more than the super colored glow-in-the-dark HCFS injected candy that they wanted. Won't use these on my bike rides, but will keep a couple around for when I'm being active with the kids.
My "go to" fuel for mtbiking
Perfect for going long! Why? B/c I can open several pouches and dump into my jersey pocket (sometimes in a plastic cup) and grab a few whenever I can get a free moment on the single track. I can let them disolve in my mouth or chew them up quickly. I don't have to think about getting out a gel, what to do with the packaging, or chewing an entire bar. These allow me to keep my fuel coming in steadily. My sensitive stomach handles them well too!
helped me make it up 90 switchbacks
Helped me get over altitude air-sucking and "hitting the wall" on a hike up 90 switchbacks in the Peruvian Andes...on the way up to the cloud city of Choquequirao. Wish I had bought a ton more!
Quick tasty and easy
Stuffed in a pocket, taken one (fine, I prefer two) at a time, replenished as needed: these are the ticket if water isn’t that handy and you don’t want to be huffing dry dusty granola onto the trail at every breath. (Or inopportunely sucking a hunk down the wrong pipe.) I don’t even particularly like chewing them. They dissolve rapidly enough; why rush the pleasure? Shop a variety of other flavors if this doesn’t suit you (it probably will). Haven’t noted an energy deficiency yet, so I’m gonna say check there too. When picnic isn’t your style today but miles and E are, pack these. You can get several into a pocket of most trail-ready pants and shorts.
Seriously improved my fueling on rides
For rides over 3 hours, I had long found it hard to fuel effectively and felt sick from eating less digestible bars and snacks with grains. Switching to gummies solved that, and these are definitely some of the best I've had. Good basic ones for the start of a ride, and pair well with beefier gel packs to use late in endurance rides. My only gripe is that there does not appear to an option to buy bulk packs through REI, so these get pretty expensive if you use them regularly. I'd love if REI would sell 12 or 24 packs to bring down the cost per pack.
