Great Product!
This is an awesome product, that is easy to use and clean! I love it! I have two, one for washing, and one for rinsing. So now you can take everything with you...and the KITCHEN SINK!
More than just a sink
When I bought this sink some years back my intent was not for use but for just one more piece of gear I could have. My thoughts changed quickly. On multi-week river and desert trips to mountain summits this camp sink has been a lifesaver. It can serve as a rain collector to an extra container to settle water in or even as a rain hat! Its the perfect size to wash backcountry kitchenware in and you don't even notice the weight. It dries quickly and never has retained any smell. This sink is very tuff and very small. The basin goes with me on every trip no matter where I am going! On one trip I made a large pinprick hole on the bottom of the basin , but with just a small drop of seam bond from my pad repair kit and wham problem fixed and that was in 2003 and have never had a problem since. What a great buy!
You need this
I picked this up and was a bit self conscious about what all my backpacking friends would say when I pulled it out of my pack (I am the gadget guy, something for everything).... Well, I pulled out out after a 7 mile hike into camp. They laughed. I then went to the lake and came back with a giant load of water (it was a heavy haul). I then proceeded to filter the water from my basin for cooking or whatever else I needed, without having to go back to the lake to fill a Nalgene. Later, I decided it was laundry time so I turned the basin inside out and filled it, when off and washed some clothes; and as I was finishing it became the big hit and everyone wanted to wash clothes in it (Natural soap of course, away from water sources ;) ) After that was done I turned it back to the intended basin side and filled it back up with water to bring near camp. Everyone dipped in and filtered their water from it. By the end of the trip everyone wanted one. I highly recommend grabbing one and trying it out.
small, light, but collapse easible
I've had two of these for several years. I bought it for car camping. At first I liked it much better than the sturdier collapsible bucket I had, because the collapsible bucket always collapsed. These pack small and light and are nice for that reason. But they don't do a great job of actually holding a lot of water to wash dishes in. Maybe better if backpacking? but for car camping, get something that takes more room/is heavier, but actually works better. Plus, after a number of years, they do wear out. Def wouldn't use in an RV because the do collapse on me periodically, leaving water all over my camp kitchen.
Worth its weight in gold!
Why anyone would give this less than a perfect rating is beyond me. Yes it is a bit large, but they make smaller versions for the ultra-lighters and soloists. I used this awesome product for everything from filtering water while in camp to doing dishes, laundry, and bird bathing in my week plus in the Sierras. I highly recommend this. Does not collapse like the buckets and is great for almost evrything. S to S builds a reliable, well made product. I wont leave it behind!
Most Excellent
Off all the gear I've used over the years this may be the most excellent purpose-built thing ever. It works wonderfully. Fill it up with water and it holds its shape firmly. All you need is a fairly level surface. It's light and packs up small. The included case has instructions on how to fold it properly, which is greatly helpful as it's not intuitive. Got the 20L which is plenty big when full - will probably drop for a second, smaller version. This is a game-changer for backpacking. No more hauling around a bulky collapsable basin or fiddling with water bottles to wash up. Five big stars!
Everything AND the Kitchen Sink!
The Kitchen Sink is more useful than we ever thought! While the kitchen sink has been great as an occasional secondary sink for washing/rinsing dishes in our camper van, we've also found other great uses: • Temporarily Storing dirty dishes and/or clean dishes waiting to be dried • Carrying our shower / bathing items back and forth from our pop-up shower • Washing clothes Our unwritten rule in our camper van is that we try to make everything serve more than one purpose if we can. This helps cut down on items we have to store in the van. The kitchen sink certainly fits the bill. This thing is now a permanent piece of gear for our van!!
Doesn't work unless totally full
Doesn't stay upright unless it is completely full. Hard to fold up, just doesn't seem worth the money to me.
great, just one thing…
Love these kitchen sinks, I have three 5s, a 10 and 20. Abs I use them. But the cable in the rim is a little too heavy, which makes it droop into the water. The water pressure pushes out the sides the way it’s supposed to, but the rim is too heavy you get issues with spillage when you actually use them. I use them, but I make allowances and do things like hold one handle to keep the side up
Harder to use than you think
It doesnt really keep its shape. IT is a novel and cool idea but once you put water in it it donuts out a majority of its volume. I didnt have an issue like others with it suddenly leaking all the water out but unlike having a rigid vessel you are just naturally nervous when you see it bouncing around with the water inside while using it. Sadly will be returning for a more rigid collapsible silicon one. That said to actually use it was very easy and the handles on the sides made it easy to transport from spot to spot (filling spigot to site etc)
